I applied for Amex Blue back on 12/18. Amex pulled both my Experian (738) and my Equifax. At the time they pulled Equifax, there was one erroneous derogatory still on the report. It was showing as an unpaid charge-off from 1996 for $700. It has since been deleted. Should I call Amex now and ask for reconsideration and just apply for the card online again? It seems they pull a hard inquiry for either; so I'm wondering which strategy has been more successful for others? Is there a best number to call? Thanks for your help. Greg
There was a thread about a similar situation posted here eariler. Since it has been less than 60 days since you applied for Amex Blue, contact Equifax, have them send an updated copy of your credit report (which they're obligated to do under FCRA to anyone who has denied you credit within past 6 months, [but don't wait that long, apparently Amex only holds applications for up to 60 days]), that way, you won't waste another hard inquiry, or two for that matter. Once Equifax sends Amex the update, call them back, ask for reconsideration based on the fact they now have an accurate copy of your credit report.
Thanks for the info. I will call EFX and ask them to send out the updated report to AMEX tomorrow. Greg
