Hey LKH, Now that you are free of negative items on yoru report - in what order have you applied for cards and what were the limits? What # of inquiries have you gotten along the way? I plan to start applying for cards soon and building credit.. I was going to follow a lot of what Lizardking did and applying for similiar cards.. but I know I would probably be on the blacklist for citibank, amex, mbna, and discover..
I've only applied 2 times so far. I applied for the citi aa silver got automatice approval for $6500 then immediately applied for the gold aa and got automatice approval for 5000. Then I applied last Wed. night for the Target visa and auto approval for 1500. The card came today and I just called and got an increase of 1,000 before activating it. so, so far that's it.
Yes, Citi has a blacklist...and I think it may last forever. My husband had a Citi CC before he filed bk in '93, so before it was charged off I am thinking the date of last activity was maybe 1992ish?? Don't know as I don't have the Cr. reports w/me. On a lark, he applied in late 2001, and got a response back that no, you can't get a Citi card due to previous card being included in BK or chargeoff. So they are retaining the internal records of the chargeoff longer than 8 or 9 years, I guess. I called anonymously and asked (the 301 number that has been posted here) and was told the blacklist can feasibly last forever on their internal records. Wow.
I had a chargeoff with them as well in the early 90's and last month I got approved for 2 AA cards with 10K each. I am sure these blacklist exist but I am not sure how long they keep you it.
Perhaps this blacklist is only w/ the type of card you get? There are many different type of citi cards right? Also, when u get denied because of being in the blacklist, do you get hit with an inquiry too?
No, my husband didn't even get an inquiry with which to get a free CR! They just sent the "you had a previous bad acct. with us " letter very, very quickly. Makes you wonder if they ever purge it...he'd love to get back in Citi's good graces but we shall see.
I recall a posting of how Citibank has different cards.. one for airlines, one for Ford, etc. Does anyone remember that thread? That if u are on the blacklist for a specific one, then you can still get credit for another line?
Just curious - how does blacklist work? Is it only with bk's?? Does it affect those cards that were closed by grantor (But were paid off)?? Thanks for any help, GT
Once again: CITI is evil. They will make every attempt to worsen your credit including listing multiple entries for your account on your credit report.
