Tried to dispute a Sallie Mae serviced loan back in December. Came back verified as correct with all three CRAs. I have 1 60 day late showing. The loan is in forbearance right now. The problem stems from a retroactive forbearance I received in 1998. I wrote to Sallie Mae explaining that this 60 day late is killing me. They sent me the standard form letter saying that they can't change a credit report(Don't you just love that line?) that the account was current when the forbearance was granted but it was 60 days past due. Well I decided to escalate to their CBS(Consumer Borrower Services). I explained that the forbearance was granted late and the 60 days was due to some bureaucratic snafu. Well yesterday I received another form letter with the same bureaucratic answer. What to do now? I have 6 student loans all in good standing. This 60 day late I'm sure is good for 10-20 points on my scores. Trying not to be a tool ;-)
ask for proof. ask for copies of the forbearance documents stating when it become effective. they have to validate just like other collection agencies.
