In case anyone's interested, here are the requirements for a Bofa secured card (emailed to me earlier this morning):

Thank you for your e-mail. Secured credit cards are accounts with the
credit limit secured by a Bank of America savings account balance. The
Secured Card accommodates customers that ordinarily would not qualify
for an unsecured Credit Card. You are not required to have a
pre-existing relationship with Bank of America to apply for a secured
    credit card account.

To be eligible for a secured account, you must meet the following
    requirements:

    Minimum age 18

Must be an U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a valid social
security number or Tax payer I.D. number with a US mailing address (for
nonresident alien, refer to Non-Resident Alien policy)

No Unpaid Bank of America charge-off

    No Bankruptcy

No Repossession (voluntary or involuntary) < 36 months

No Foreclosure (includes deed in lieu) < 36 months

No known unpaid charge-off accounts > $1000 with any financial
institution including retail cards and student loans < 36 months

The Secured Credit Card account will be reviewed for graduation at 12
months. Accounts passing the graduation criteria will be upgraded to an
unsecured account. At that that time, notification is sent to advise you
that the collateral funds (secured savings) have been released.

If the account fails the graduation criteria, the account will be
reviewed against specific policy criteria for graduation twice a year.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us from
    the web via http://www.bankofamerica.com/contact.

WOW...if those are the requirements for a secured card, I wonder what the requirements are for an unsecured card....

The minimum's $250, and I'm not sure whether or not you can add to that after the fact.

No kidding. With specs like those, you can pretty much shoot for an unsecured Citi.

I heard (dont' know if it's true) you can't have ANY upaid charge-offs with Citi. That's why I'm paying all these people in exchange for deletion and even paying 2 that won't delete. They are 4 yrs old, but in the next year I want Citi and I was told you can't have charge-offs unpaid. Anyone know for sure?

    Chrisit,

You cannot have your name in the Citibank Blacklist and they will denied automatically.

I have an unpaid chargeoff and an unpaid repo. THANK GOODNESS they aren't reporting on Equifax....the report they checked. So maybe I'll get it... I have 3 paid collections, all for under $500 and 1 late. That's it, the late is from 1997.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Citi.

    Erica,

I think the unsecured card is almost the same as secured card.

I'm on on Citi blacklist. Never had a Citi card, I'm asking about charge-offs. I was told you can't have ANY charge-offs on your credit report to get approved for a Citi card.

Yes, you can add to the deposit. Go into any branch or make a transfer from your existing BofA account via the web or phone and your limit increases within 24 hours.

Deposits of $250-$4999 = Gold card
    and $5000-$10,000 = Platinum card

Cool, that's good to know, jonesing.

    Christi,

I was thinking the same thing, until I came across this post sort of recently:

    http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=72593&highlight=<font%20color=

It's a long thread, but the gist of it is that--all other things being equal--tradelines from some banks count for more, fico-wise, than tradelines from other, usually sub-prime, banks. That's pretty much the only thing that would attract me to a secured card with relatively stringent requirements, like this one.

    Christi,

Don't say never. I had a couple of Citibank Charge-off back in early 90s and somehow they came off from the blacklist. I was approved all sort of Citibankcards.

What I'm saying is that I was told that you can't have any current (within past 7 yrs) on your credit report to be approved for a Citi card. Not that NEVER in your life you can't have had a charge off. I am NOT and never been on the Citi blacklist. I have never owned a citi credit card. I'm trying to find out if ALL charge-offs showing on the credit report must be paid or not to be approved for Citi?? Does anyone understand what I'm asking......lol or am I babbling again.

Christi - why pay them at all? Why not just have them removed completely from your CR? A PAID chargeoff vs an UNPAID chargeoff on your credit is JUSTas bad..

they keep coming back verified!!! so i am paying some for deletion and the others i am paying just based on principle
