Thanks superadman for the information. Yes I can afford to play with maybe one or two of the bs cards. And you are so right if you screw your credit you have to pay the price to get it unscrewed and I am willing to do that. I posted something for Erica to read before I read your post but I guess I will have to do what I have to do what I have to so that I can have the type of credit I need and deserve.
MsJackson you can win if you get just 2 or 3 of the subprime cards and charge and pay, charge and pay. Let your score reflect someone that got some new accounts, didn't go berzerk, and paid responsibly. CapOne has great service and is a good company but they are notorious for not reporting the credit limit. That is no help at all to your score and can even cause it to drop. Reluctantly I recommend Cross Country Bank, Orchard Bank, First Premier Bank, and First National Bank of Marin. I have heard good things about the "Action Card" but I would let that on be your third card. Start with good ol' sleazy fo' sheezy CCB.
Ms Jackson, I started in March 2001 with 400 scores. At the time I think I was the ONLY one with a 400 something score. I was terribly embarrased at first. My equifax was 431 (that was the only score to get at the time). I am now not much higher, but equifax only went to 530 in the past 2 weeks, it was still at 475. Experian is my best and I have a lawsuit filed now against them so I'm hoping for some more results. I'm down to 5 or 6 negatives with them and -0- inquiries. Got all my hards deleted and most of the softs deleted. I just lost 6 pts for a new account this week, but it will come back Transunion I still have 3 pages of negatives that everyone else is deleting but them. I'm in email contact with someone at TU now and if that dont' change I'm filing on them next week too. Equifax has been turned over to Consumer Affairs because I sent the VP an email along with 4 faxes and 2 CRRR letters raising hell and threatening to sue them. I am having a few things fall off there. I just found out yesterday that my hospital (most of mine are medical collections) will delete for payment, so I'm doing agency nursing on the weekends to get those paid off. Within 6 weeks I will have about 6 medical collections gone FOREVER. Leaving me with 2 charged-off Capital One accounts that I intend to pay with my income tax and beg like crazy for Mr Cooke to help me out on those with a better line reporting or re-opening 1 of the accounts. I was about to give up a few days ago and figured there had to be something else to try. So I'm at the begging, sob story stage in my repair. If you call and are honest I've found that some truly will work with you and for collection accounts go to the ORIGINAL creditor, kick the CA to the curb... You will get better results with them as they want their money.
Kelly, why give 8.95 to moneygram or western union? In a true emergency they will reliably get it there. But your best bet is to do an online payment using the credit card company's website with your checking account. If you don't have a checking account you can go to http://wamu.com and they have a completely free online checking account. They do not pull a credit report. They do use Chex systems though. All customers automatically get $100 overdraft protection and free online banking. For a flat $5/month they will give you complete unlimited online bill pay service. You can pay every single one of your bills with this even utilities. Good luck.
on that note (CCB) i would go for the LOC account, since it is checks you really cant go hog wild. it is guaranteed and it reports monthly just like a cc. you cant apply online you have to do it on the phone or print the app from the website.
Ahhh, thats where i don't trust CCB. i have read the horror stories about when they have gotten ahold of account #'s. i just budget in the 8.95! i do pay cap1 online and bank of hoven never any problems w/ those 2. kelly
CCB has been made to behave better because of their notorious recent past. But if you are that spooked by CCB, f 'em. Go to First Premier Bank. Or Orchard Bank. Or one of the others. "F" stands for "fire" LOL
Ms Jackson, there is hope! I started my repair almost a year ago. I don't know what my scores were at first. As a couple of things dropped off, my scores improved a little (not alot). At the same time, I got 2 dept. store cards & 1 MC (Cap 1 gold) & 1 Visa (Smartcard). For the past 6 months I had other things to focus on & backed off of this. I've been using the cards for stuff I would buy anyway & paying off each month. No extras. When I checked my scores again, they were much better! Just from the new accounts, & they hit 6 months. Personally, I prefer Cap 1.
Thank you all for the responses (just returned from lunch - a little behind posting), kelly, we are just about in the same boat. I have a repo (Ford Credit) and 2 C/O's (Cap1), I'm going to wait until I can get some of the other neg's off before I try and tackle Ford. Can you apply for the cards that superadman and others are suggesting online? Kell keep posting everything, It gives me courage to keep at it since I know I'm not the only one who has made mistakes as far as credit. I love you all!!!!!!!!!!!
first national is www.fncc.com and you can apply online for CCB,FCNB(secured),ORCHARD BANK there really are a lot more CENTENNIAL, which is also first permier. All sub-prime and fairly easy to get. kelly
