Shell Denied! HELP!

I got a denial letter today from Associates National Bank today for a Shell Card. The reason for denial was " A repossesion is being reported on your credit bureau report." There is a repossesion on my report from 4+ years ago, which I am disputing because it was a voluntary repossion that I worked out with the dealer. I was 19 when I bought the truck, "young & dumb" as they say, but what really pissed me off is the fact that I have had a $5,000 personal loan through "The Associates" (Now Citifinancial because of the merger) that I have been paying on for the the past 3+ years with not one late payment!

Isn't "The Associates" part of "Associates National Bank"? Is there anything I can do, I don't care if they give me a $100.00 limit at first. I tried Planetfeedback but I could not find "Associates"

Also does anyone know which retail/gas cards are the easiest to get?

Any response would be greatly appreciated I'm new to this. I have found a lot of useful info here, and I want to let everyone know how much you've all taught me.

I got an Shell Card pre-approval offer from the mail and I don't have any negative in my credit report. They approved me $400 for the purchases and $100 cah line for cash advance. By the way, they didn't pull any credit report before they issued the card. I heard the Associates pulled Equifax on their Gas Card and Visa/MC.

How easy? What are your scores/negatives? What report do they pull?

Chevron has the credit builders program. You apply for their regular card. If you're denied ask for credit builders. Your limit will be $200-$500 ( I think). My scores were in the low 500's when I got the card over a year ago. The annual fee is $29 or $39. The second year, the fee can get waived if you've been good. I suggest applying by phone and when the rep says your denied ask for creidt builders. Oh..ask if credit builders is still available before you apply.

I called to see if the program was still available. The rep said that the program was still available but not offered to all. He said you must apply and be denied. If your denied and eligible for program, his computer says so. He claimed he had no other details (he was acting a bit like an azzhole). Maybe you can get a better rep when you call.

Well...it seems that on my credit report shell is reporting as (in the inquiry sec) Shell/Citibank NA

so it seems like they want Citibank standards.

I just applied over the phone. The guy was really nice. Just took my name, mailing address and social.

I case anyone is interested, I live in So California and they pull Equifax. I sounds like they pull that no matter what because I asked before they new where I live. Out of my 3 crummy reports, Equifax is the least crummy.

Oh, I forgot to mention, that it's not an instant denial or approval. You get your answer in 7-10 days.

And were off!!! Place your bets, and good luck to everyone!

Sorry I don't ever want to state incorrect information on this board. However, when I applied over the phone, I was immediately denied and immediately offered the credit builders card. Now this was over a year ago so things probably have changed. Good luck!

I put in my app yesterday for Chevron. The computers were down so they didn't key it in until today. Called this morning and was transferred over to a credit manager who offered me the "credit builders" card. Annual fee of $30/CL of $300. Card is reviewed for "regular" status after 12 months and in the interim will be reviewed very closely.

    -Annual fee ranges from 0-$50
-I was asked the usu stuff (income, length of employment, etc.) and how much I spend on gas a month

I called the 800-free-app number to see if my app was entered. They pulled it up and they put me through to a credit mgr. Call back and ask to speak to a credit manager about your app.
