Well, I am stunned! This guy really is as good as everyone says! :)

Talked to him 5 minutes, and he offered to increase my credit line from $300 to $1300. Been with Cap1 about 8 months, perfect payment history. I told him I'd like a card to transfer an old balance to, and $300 wasn't enough. He just asked if a thousand more bucks would be enough for now. :)

Super nice guy, just all around nice to talk to.

Told me to feel free to get in touch with him anytime I needed anything, that he was there to help. Told me at the rate I was going, I'd be in Platinum territory with Cap1 before I knew it, and he'd be there to help me every step of the way.

I'm starting to love Cap1. Just kind of excited and had to share. :)

Seems like Cap 1 is loosen up the cl purse. I received 1300.00 in cl increases in the last 4 months.

Mr. Cooke is responsible but Plat. is still far off for me.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Cap1 is impressive, I agree. Their Executive Department is unparalleled.

With Cap1, you generate an internal score that drives your account's terms and credit lines. So, a perfect pay history over 1-2 years really can lead to Platinum. I know, I have done it!

Regarding terms, every 6 mos you may ask for a credit line increase. Normally you can ask the system to generate one for you. Don't be too surprised if it's the standart 300. Then, if you get that, get a supervisor on the line. Ask for more. If you're balance transfering they like that.

If that doesn't help you, call retention. They normally can also help you. Do this at least twice a year and you'll normally yield between 700 to 1300 per 6 mos in loc growth.

then once a year, call the Exec dept and ask for their help. After you ask for the line increase, make sure to see what they can do about waiving the annual fee and about reducing the interest rate. They're very generous about those once you have a good track record.

See you at Platinum in about 2 years or less :)

Oh, when you get the offer for a second card, take it. Later you can combine if you'd like and get to Plat in less time by combining. Make sure to get the annual fee waived on at least one... I want to make certain you don't pay too much to build credit :)

Do you have the number for Mr. Cooke??

Someone gave it to me once but I don't know what I did with it.

I have a $500 card, would love to see what he does with it...

Same thing here. I've been with Cap One for almost 2 years with a perfect paying history. I have used their car loan service (peoplefirst) and have a secured and unsec. Gold Card. Mr. Cooke unsecured the regular card and doubled the limit. Very impressive indeed. The next time somebody dogs Cap One, I will be in their face as they have NEVER screwed me or overused the infamous telemarketing scams & bs unlike FCNB (which I cancelled yesterday) and lame ass Providian (which gives me $250, DOES NOT increase my limit after 6 months and is the WORST at telemarketing to me and I plan to cancel tonight). I also use First Premier, which I plan to drop after it hits 6 months.

Great advice here. I have been with Cap 1 for 20 months. I will recieve their Platinum this week.
No, its not a high limit but it is platinum and I intend to have a higher limit at the end of the year.

Most folks recommend that you PFB him first, just so he can review your account before he calls you.

I've never had much luck with PFB, so instead I just called the number for the Cap1 Executive Offices (1-800-955-1455) and asked if I could be transferred to Mr. Cooke's voicemail.

I just left him a message saying I wanted to discuss my account and possible limit increase, gave him my phone number and account number, and he called back a few hours later.

a few more things to add. A perfect payment history over two years does not lead to a Plat. card if you have a bk on file.

If you call Mr. Cooke and request a huge cl increase (say over 1k) he may ask your permission to pull a hard inquiry.

If you call the cs rep for an increase every 6 months, you may not unsecure your card during that time. If that is the case for you, I would call Mr. Cooke and explain the situation to him. He has the authority to change that.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

I don't recommend sending a letter via Planet Feedback first. Some companies regard such letters as negative press (unless they are labeled as positive feedback). When I've called Mr. Cooke, he was exceptionally friendly and looked up my account as we spoke. The same thing is true for Mr. Miller.

It did for me. There's not alot of concrete rules in this credit "game" is the only rule I follow. I didn't even ask for it.

But likewise, positive feedback is always welcome. While PFB is not an absolutely necessary step, a shared positive PFB letter is a really good thing that helps the company. Give a little, get a little.

Can anyone tell me if Mr. Cooke or Mr. Miller would be helpful in allowing me to pay a $400 charge-off in exchange for deletion / paid-never late for my wife?

There is an option to not make the letter public on PFB. This is what I do. My reasoning is to give them an honest chance while planting the idea that I could possibly go public.

Do not sweat the Platinum Card..I got one and the apr is %14.9 as well as a $400 limit and will increase to $500 after 2 billing cycles...HA HA..WIll be calling Mr Cooke in 5 months...This is my first account with Cap One maybe that is the reason for such a small limit
