When an account goes to a collection agency, is the original creditor at that point done with the account? Specifically, I have a dentist bill that has gone to collection, if I ask the CA for validation do they contact the dentist or have they already obtained all the paperwork and has the dentist already written this off? At what point is the original creditor no longer involved, how do they give the debt to someone else? Thanx
They have to contact the original creditor (dentist) and get the proof from them. It's my understanding that MOST Ca's dealing with medical bills are in a contract with the CA for xx amount of time. Hubby has an old bill and he called the creditor (doctor) and offered to pay the doctor IN FULL ONLY if the doctor pulled the bill back from the CA, the doctor said it's against their contract. So we told the doctor until the CA no longer has their slimy hands in the pot they won't see a DIME from us!
The $64,000 question. I tried to find that out but I couldn't, the doctor wouldn't give up the info, but I DID find out that they pay the CA 35% of whatever the CA collects. Which is why they have contracts, I offered to pay the doctor directly and the doctor said they would have to forward the money to the CA so they can get their cut. I give up!
If They want the money they will find a way to get rid of the CA.[ You offered payment in full Dock turned it down. Sence DR.refused payment in full the debt is paid in full.
If they refuse to deal directly with me I just tell them it is against my policy to make payment so long as there is a third party involved and to let me know when the CA is out of the picture so that we can get it settled.
Someone must know how these darn contracts work, how collection agencies are there? Maybe someone should call the CA and pretend to be a business owner and get scoop...any up for it? Pick one out of hat....
They constantly call our office, asking us to join. Their cut is usually 30-40% of whatever they collect. I just tell them all our customers pay well and we don't need their services. Next time one calls I'll ask them more questions. Dani
