ok, just talked to mr. cooke. i have a charged off account from 1999 it charged off at 243.00 but is now 1032.70 w/the fees. he is going to let me pay 516.35 to settle it. he gave me until april 23rd to get it in. this seems fair to me. i also have a good account w/cap1 so hopefully when all is said and done this will help. i also plan on calling back after it is paid to better the rating on my reports, for now his words were "settled" that doesnt sound too good.

Did he say it will be noted as settled in full? settled for less than full? If you have the funds, see if you can negotiate a better rating for paying just a little more. Most have been able to get a rating changed from R9 to R5.

hmmmm, you know he just said "so then i'll mark the account as settled". and i offered to pay it all, he said oh no no, i can let this go for 50% payable in 90 days. i didnt use the PFB route so he had to get back to me. there were other people there with him because they all started laughing when he couldnt figure out 90 days from today so i actually wanted to make it short and sweet. he did tell me to give a call back about 3 days after i paid so maybe he will discuss the rating then? i dunno.

I had a collection account that was changed to settled. It was then transferred to the positive section of my report and my score jumped 14 pts. And, it was over 6 years old at that time. If he reports it just as settled, that "may" work out good for you.

Guys I'm no expert here but, I don't think having a notation of "settled" on your credit report is going to be viewed as positive. First try and get him to have it "paid as agreed" If he won't do that go for a "paid" notation this is neutral and shouldn't do your report any harm.

    Thanks

I thought the exact same thing but it went from the negatives side to the positive side and my score went up 14 pts. I'd rather not have it on there at all, but it sure beats a charge off listing.

i dont have any settled on my reports now but i can tell you i have 4 "paid after charge off/collection" and i gained about 2 points, TOTAL,and im not even sure if it was the pay off's or not. i guess i'll just pay it and then ask again. thx for all the input!! kelly
