... according to Citi USA customer service. The purchase has no transaction fees and accumulates rewards points for the rewards card. I will update on how it registers on my card after I do my transfer this weekend.

    FYI,

I wish I had known that when I first got my card. my 0% on purchases runs up in March. I might still do it just to keep increasing my points.

But it is good to know.

    Well,

I'll do it this weekend and update on what appears on my transaction list and points balance, so you may want to wait until I corroborate what CS told me. I don't mind doing this experiment for the board.

The first Citi USA CS person had NO clue what I was referring to. I called back and the second CS person said it definitely was a purchase b/c he got a call two days ago about C2it.Com, didn't know the answer and asked around until he got the answer. He said that a C2it purchase would get rewards points, but a regular balance transfer would not get points.

Anyway, if it works, I am going to move my balance around from Citi to MBNA Q Rewards to Citi USA Signature and get points on both of those cards. It's a great way to accumulate points without accumulating the debt.

I think Cyprigirl said that C2it was listed as a purchase with MBNA as well.

C2it got listed as a cash advance on Capital One for me...so watch out!

    Well let's see:

    MBNA - Cyprigirl - purchase

BofA - Cyprigirl - purchase BUT came back with cash advance fee

Cap One - Rick - cash advance

I'm testing MBNA right now and will test Citibank USA tomorrow. When I registered the Citi USA accout, I registered it as a "Citibank Visa or MC credit card" - so hopefullly the main Citi will seethe Citi USA card as own of it's own. :)

    UPDATE 2-9-02

MBNA registered my C2it transaction as a category C - "purchase".

    Category A = balance transfer
    Category B = cash advance
    Category C = purchase

Thanks, Cyprigirl, for doing this first! I'm off to test Citi USA!

    UPDATE 2-13-02

Citibank USA (Hhonors Signature Card): CASH ADVANCE!!!!!

But - the rep said that b/c it was a "C2it" wire transfer that they may code it as a purchase but I won't know until my statement date which is 3 weeks away! :-(

That makes no sense their own card classified as a cash advance!

    That is very BAD!!!

That really stinks! I hope it is coded as a purchase on your statement. Please keep us updated!

    It DOES stink!

They even charged me $7.16 for a $300 C2it transaction - but get this - the charge is not listed on my transaction roster. I deduced it from my total balance subtracting the listed transactions. That means it's definitely a finance charge -around 2.3%. :-(

I hope they code it as a purchase, but I just BT'd the balance off of my Citi USA card to stop the cash advance clock (no grace period).

Btw, I'm not really impressed with Citi USA's account management website. They are nowhere near Citibank's account online.

No, the online account management is not very good, however they did recently change it. It is a little better than before, but not much better.
