at the end of the tunnel and it's not always an oncoming train. Quick little amex story for everyone. I have been trying to get an AMEX of some sort for about 2 years, green, blue, gold, delta, anything and nothing but rejections. Scores are mid to upper 600's and income is well over 250k per year. $800,000 mortgage, plenty of credit, but a couple of indiscretions and a lot of inquiries. My unemployed homemaker wife has platinum amex and constant offers for upgrades, but I couldn't get anything. I had an amex chargeoff about 12 years ago, long since paid off, but figured they must be holding it against me. Last ditch effort, I applied for Delta Amex Gold card. No instant answer so I sent PFB to amex asking why they gave me a card when I was in college and didn't even have a job, but now can't get anything. I got response back saying call 800 number for more info. Called regular customer service to ask if I was blacklisted, they say no problem, your old account was taken care of. So every day I call 800-641-2400 to see if app was approved. Every day it says you will receive notice in 10-9-8 etc... days. Finally, today was the last day, and the clock goes back to ten days so I held on for a csr. Finally get one on the phone and she says let me go over some info with you right now. Asks about income etc.. and low and behold a 25k optima is on the way. It seems that if you can catch them while they are reviewing the app, you can definitely have some influence. I'm sure there was another ding letter on the way before I spoke with the csr. THanks for listening.
Pardon my jealousy, but how does one earn over $250,000 per year? I'm struggling to get by on $33,500 as a graphic designer. If I made that kind of money, I could live off of $25-30K and invest the rest. So what's the secret?
Yes, I would like to know also. Seriously, I'm thinking about a career change but I don't want to get into another low paying job. I have a B.A. in communications.
I have an executive level job, but my main focus is sales and sales management. I have found that the vast majority of people making over 100k per year have jobs that involve sales. If you are selling and making money for a company, especially a small or mid size company, the sky is the limit. You always have job security, and if you can sell, you can get a job anytime. Of course, it's not easy to spend all your time asking people to spend money. By the way, it doesn't matter how much you make, you always spend it all. 10 years ago I was making 30k per year, and 5 years ago I was making about 50k, yet I had more money then.
