They perform background checks for employers. They did my background check for my current position. They verified my employment and educational references. They should show up as a soft inquiry.
They also provide reports to insurance companies too. At least they do for MetLife auto and homeowners insurance.
I worked for Choicepoint 1.5 years ago. Choicepoint was originally known as Equifax Insurance Information Services before Equifax spun them off (Equifax wanted to focus on the Credit Reporting business). Choicepoint maintains databases which contain insurance claim information, DMV information, Life Insurance claim information, Casualty & Loss information, public courthouse records, etc. Choicepoint sells reports containing this information: i.e. CLUE (casualty & loss) and DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle) reports to insurance agencies, employment reports & background checks to potential employers. I seem to recall that they also sold medical claims reports to health insurance providers. Choicepoint was not a CRA at the time I worked there. They did not maintain any credit file databases. They pulled those from Equifax for the most part. Choicepoint was a separate company not a subsidiary of Equifax after the spin-off. If anyone has any other questions concerning Choicepoint, let me know and I will try to answer them. yzf600rk
yzf600rk , Do you know if I can currently dispute items in my clue report. It has insurance claims on there from when my brother and I were under my fathers policy and my brother had accidents. This is starting to sound like credit bureaus and authorized users!! Your info is much appreciated!
I worked in the IT department. As I recall, the Insurance companies supply Choicepoint with Casualty and Loss feeds. How did you obtain your CLUE report? There were support/Customer representatives for each product line. You should have received a contact number with your CLUE report. However, Choicepoint will probably re-direct you to the supplier of the information. Call Choicepoint at 1-800-342-5339 and inquire about disputing items on the CLUE report. Check out the Choicepoint website at www.choicepointinc.com. Look under Industry solutions and you should see the Consumers option. Check out this url also: http://www.choicetrust.com/servlet/com.kx.cs.servlets.CsServlet?channel=personal&subchannel=rights According to the above url, claims (CLUE), credit, and driving reports (DMV) are considered to be consumer reports and thereby covered by the FCRA. So Choicepoint has to provide a mechanism for disputing items in the aforementioned reports.
Right - any errors you find in a clue report you correct by contacting the insurance company's claims department. They actually have transcribed files containing the recorded telephone call of the actual claim report, and they can recall those - that will be the final word on who was driving, and what happened.
