    Hey everybody,

Get this. I recently sent a settlement offer to Collectech for payment in full in exchange for deletion. I just received the following letter from them:

" We have received your dispute letter for the above referenced account. In accordance with the Federal Fair Debt Collections Act, Title VIII, we have forwarded the dispute to our client, TTI Cable.

We have temporarily suspended collection efforts until your dispute can be validated. We will forward any documantation our client provides which demonstrates validity of this debt.

Please contact our client immediately should you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Client Services Department "

First of all, I didn't ask for validation. I offerred payment in exchange for deletion. Secondly, they are STILL REPORTING this account on two of my credit reports...I just checked online...yet they have just admitted here to not being able to validate!!!!!

How should I handle this? Please advise asap. I am really ticked off that they're continuing to report this account until they can find or invent something to validate this alleged debt. They've been reporting without being able to validate for over five years now! How should I proceed? It's currently in dispute with EX. It keeps coming back VERIFIED!!!!!

Do I send this letter to EX? Or do I fax Collectech tonight and demand removal???

Let them try to validate it. Maybe they can't and it will just go away. If they do manage to validate then offer to pay for deletion again.

They are allowed by law to continue to report the account while they are validating it. However, they are required to notate on the entry that you are disputing it.

From your post, I don't see where they have admitted to not being able to validate it. Give them 30 days and then send estoppel.

They will not go away. Calmest, this is the same BS letter I got, not after I sent TWO validation letters, but after I filed a complaint with the BBB. So here's what I would do:
    1. Save their letter
    2. Wait for their "validation" which will be a printout.
    3. File a complaint with your AG.
    4. File a complaint with the BBB
    5. Print a copy of your credit reports, to show they have not marked it as "disputed".
    6. In 30 days send an estoppel.
    7. Wait for them to try and collect on the debt after the estoppel.
    8. Count the violations and sue them.

If they don't mark the account it's 1 violation PER CRA they are reporting on.
Keep me posted about these @ssholes.

fwiw: A long long time ago before I knew much about credit I had a really, really small phone collection ($400) with collectech and I just sent them a restrictivly endorsed check and it worked!

KHM, I will keep you posted and do as you've suggested. I feel better just knowing that others here have also dealt with these bozos. I might consult you later on for more advice :)

Mook, It would be nice if the restrictive endorsement would work, but I highly doubt that it will...I'm not sending a dime to these people without getting something in return :)
