We settled on our house yesterday! I figured I wouldn't be in good enough shape to buy until late next year. But thanks to some ideas from this board we were able to buy now! Of course there's still room for improvement...she has a few things that need to be deleted but for now the biggest hurdle is done. Now the next big hurdle--getting off two layers of wallpaper! ugh!!! My parents were military so we never painted the walls. She insists on painting every room in the house, even if we only just use white, because the previous owners had either hideous wallpaper or super glossy paint (no, no kids).
Thanks everyone! Dani, you don't know how true that is!!! She doesn't really like Home Depot because when she went to one in Philly, some good ol' boy gave her a hard way to go when she asked for some thermal epoxy compound. She's an art person and uses such things in her work. Well Mr. Redneck kept asking her why she needed it and was her husband around etc. I guess it was because she looks like she's 19 and she's a "she" so he was reluctant to let her have the stuff! That is until she ripped the store manager a new one ;-) Anyway, we went to Lowes but they were sooo backed up we wound up going to Home Depot instead...I think we'll be applying for a card. The stores in the outlying suburbs are so much nicer
