    Posters,

I am struggling to have removed duplicate listings from original creditors that appear on my Experian report.

The account was originally owned by Travelers Bank, Acct No.XIXIX24. Then Travelers merged with CitiBank USA. The account now is being reported by CitiBank under a different account number XOXO58. My struggle is getting Experian to realize that even though the account numbers and tradeline names are different, the account is still the one and same account. Experian has stated that they can indicate that one of the accounts was transferred, but both would remain on my credit report. I insisted that this would not be in compliance with the FCRA, as I am aware that two original creditors can not indicate ownership of the same account. I pointed this out, and Experian indicated that they would investigate in accordance with my dispute. I sincerely doubt their investigation will result in a deletion of the CitiBank account.

For the record, I intend to follow up with a letter to Experian indicating the regulation that governs the reporting of the same account by 2 different creditors who maintain ownership of the account. Do any of you know the FCRA statute that governs this situation.

Also, any advice on how to proceed from this point onward, I would appreciate receiving. In conjunction with the Experian dispute, I intend to contact Citibank directly. I also intend to report this matter to the Office of the Comptroller of Currency. Any suggestions on this issue would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

I have/had a similar situation...I'm dealing with it differently than this, but in your case, you might want to write to Citibank and have them send you a history of the account. I received a letter that had in the reference section:

    Acct No. Such and such
Formerly Acct. No. Different account number

If I were trying to get rid of a duplicate, I would have sent that letter to the CRA and pointed out that it was the same account.

    Good luck!
