Does anyone have this or know someone that does ? Does it work as advertised ? I'm getting tired of getting tons of telemarketing calls (mostly from banks) in the evening. I have caller id with anonymous call rejection, but it hasn't helped much (all "unknown" callers).

    Thanks.

when you dial a wrong number, the 3-tone series is played.

    Telezapper does the same thing.

You could put this 3-tone (available for free download on the internet) on your answering machine to screen calls.

After about a month or two of doing that, you will be off the spammers' list :)

How does the telezapper differentiate between telemarketing calls and regular calls ?

I happily pay $4/month for a service called Block 'Em through my local phone company.

Then an unknown/unavailable # comes through, they get a message saying the # you have dialed does not accept calls from telemarketers.. please add this # to your do not call list and hang up now. Otherwise, please press 1 or stay on the line...

I was getting a bunch of hang up calls - driving me insane... and this was happening 7 or 8 times a day - I was ready to rip the phone from the wall.

I signed up with this and that very day those calls stopped. It's been about 3 months and 3 calls have gotten through - but they've been telemarketers from local numbers (like a local home improvement person, a local lawn care company and a local jewelry store), so their numbers were displayed anyway and I just asked them to refrain from calling me.

So in the long run this is more $ than the telezapper, but my phone doesn't even ring with those computer calls, surveys, etc. any more. =-)

I subscribed to something like that through Verizon. Best $5 a month I ever spent.

    Wajaba,

What is the plan called that you subscribe through Verizon? I'm looking for something similar.

    Dani,

I think it's called Call Intercept, or something like that. It works pretty much like how Ozzyburger described. One small drawback--and it's really not that big a deal--is that friends or family who call from their jobs may have to go through the whole wait process on their end while you decide whether or not to take the call. One of Verizon's better products, imho...
