consumer statement appears....

    I did a dispute online for hubby last month. I got the first set of results on 3/26 all were verified then I get the second set of results today with one deleted. As I'm looking over the rest of the report I come across the following consumer statement:
    Consumer statement-
    UFIF/Potential fraud victim alert: My identifying information may have been stolen. Before extending credit, verify all applicant information or contact me personally. Dated 3/2002
    Special messages-
    Consumer statement on file relates to true name fraud or credit fraud.


    WHAT??!!??
    Would this be the fraud alert?
    Its funny because we never said anything about fraud on the online dispute nor added any statement. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Yes, the TU affiliate in Tampa added "please do not confuse with other people with similiar names, verify all identifying information."

    I did not ask to add it and I did not dispute everything as 'not mine'.

    I think it was Breeze who added that the same thing had happened to her. She or He Asked to have it removed and they did.

    I haven't bothered because I've only disputed once with TU and they deleted the most and I only gained 2 pts!

    Of course, Asset and Burdines still remains.

    ...also it is a "CUSTOMER/CONSUMER STATEMENT"...NOT a CRA statement!!!

    Interesting - I received a letter from TransUnion today...

    Dear Consumer:

    Next Card notified TransUnion that an application was received by them containing your name and social security number. However, it was their belief that you did not submit the application, and therefore, the application was deemed fraudulent.

    In response, please accept this letter as confirmation that TransUnion has deleted the inquiry in question. Further, TransUnion has added a security alert to your credit file advising potential customers to review subsequent applications for fraud. It will remain on file for one (1) year.

    Should you wish to modify this statement to include your home/work number, please complete the following. By providing a phone number, you are requesting companies who accesss your credit file to contact you directly to authenticate their transaction. Upon receipt of this completed form, TransUnion will modify the statement to remain on file for four (4) years and mail you a copy of your current credit file.

    -------------------------------------------------------
    They added this statement to my credit file:
    DO NOT CONFUSE WITH CONSUMERS OF SIMILAR IDENTIFICATION; VERIFY ALL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION.

    What I find to be interesting - I didn't have any inquiries from Next Card. None, zero, zip.

    Are these items listed as "No status"? I disputed an item with exp and no it says no status next to it and also has a comment next to it saying something like...consumer's disputing or something ( I don't have the CR in front of me. Sorry)
    What do you do when that happens?

    TU added the exact same phrase to mine as a consumer statement -- unrequested.

    What's the verdict on this? Have it removed as a consumer statement? Is it a backdoor approach to a fraud alert as someone recently mentioned? Does if effect your ability to get credit or the scores?

    If TU takes it upon themselves to add the statement can I use it to justify having accounts disputed because the indentifying information wasn't verified?

    Don't let them keep it on your credit report...YOU DIDN'T ASK FOR IT TO BE THERE!!!

    "This is supposed to be a 'consumer statement'...NOT a CRA statement...REMOVE IT".

    That is on mine as well, and was on the first one I requested when starting this journey. I'm curious as to whether there is any reason not to just leave it there?
