All good things come to an end. Over one year ago, when my credit was much more damaged than today, I received the GM card with a $1,500 credit limit. At the time I was quite satisfied to get the card. The GM card is Household's prime rewards card. During the year, I received a reduction in fixed apr. from 15.9% to a 10.something% rate without asking for it. However, I was rejected for a credit limit increase 3 times. Twice via the GM card website and once over the telephone. Therefore, I cancelled the card. I have no regrets about receiving the card in the first place as it is now an additional positive tradeline that will remain on my credit reports for 10 more years. But Household is like Providian. Because I was a sub prime applicant when I received both the GM and Providian cards, it is my assumption that these companies will always consider me to be a sub prime consumer. Therefore, I have now cancelled them both after holding the cards for over a year. Marie, has presented information to the board that closing more than 2 accounts in a 6 month interval is harmful to the credit score. I do not intend to close any more accounts for another year or more. In ending this post, I will say thanks to Household and Providian for extending a cumulative total of $4,500 in credit card limits to me when I was sub prime. I have now moved on with the help of the board. Best regards, Jim
As I recall, Household pulled Equifax and Trans Union. Providian pulled Experian My scores were unknown to me at the time of application. However, I was surprised that I got the GM card because EQ showed the public record of my BK. Both CRA's were reporting discharged BK credit card accounts. Today the public record of my BK has been deleted. My EQ score is 702 In regard to TU... Drumroll please !!! My TU score has fluctuated no lower than 810 and as high as 861 during the last few months. Jim
Congrats on the scores You're now doing everything perfectly! I do understand your sentiments. I don't even use my 3 Providian cards anymore... they're just there for ratios. I totally agree with you about their ideas about us. It seems if you have a subprime notation on your account, you stay subprime. I actually got a letter today from Providian asking if I was happy with an executive office resolution. What resolution? they have absolutely nothing to offer anymore and they admit it. Sad really. I filled out the form with 2 pages of suggestions. I wonder if they'll read them. anyway, at the appropriate point I'll cancel all my Providian cards and my one Household one too... I'm just waiting out the right time period. Honestly, if I never get another credit card ever again I'd be fine. 3 Cap1 Plats, Amex... don't need more again, congrats on moving past the old subprime cards.
Hey Jim, Good move. In case you're having second thoughts, just look at this page, and they'd be gone in a second: http://www.epinions.com/finc-Credit-Cards-Standard-F-N-Household_Bank_Credit_Card/display_~reviews Saar
https://www.hcsapplication.com/hcs/hcsapplication?gmcardapply&069&BA4702T0CO140010 BT 0.00% 6 months..."GO-TO" 9.99% If anybody interested...HOUSEHOLD was good to me...I had $17,000 limit on my card when no other one was above $10,000...The only bad thing they did was try to charge me an annual fee...so I closed it...then they SOLD it to FLEET...
I had two Orchard accounts (also Household) until last week when I closed one of them. Not able to get APR below 15.9 or promotional BT offers. I'm keeping my other Orchard at least for a while because it is old even though I rarely use it.
