Hello, I am new to all of this, and am wondering what (if anything) I should do. This is where I stand... I have a EQ score of 689, but I don't know my other scores. On my EQ I have one collection (unpaid) dated 11/95 for $3000.00 This not my debt. But I know I would have a hard time proving it. It shows up on EQ & EX but not on TU. Also, I have 2 other collections on EX that are both from TCF. One for $200. and one for $235. But I know I don't owe these either! When I switched banks back in 97 I was not over drawn. And it seems as though they are reporting twice. And also on EX I have one more $136. from a speeding tix in another state. (this is mine, and of course I was NOT speeding). And the only neg. I have on TU is one of the TCF's for $200. The TFC's are dated 4/97 and the tix is 5/96. So my question is... Do I do anything? I know that my big one will fall off in nov. But the others will be there a year or 2 more. I don't think this is really hurting my credit. Because I have 13 good accounts all with little or no balances. But I hate that these things. That I am not liable for being on my credit. But from what I've read on this board, sometimes you can make things worse. What should I do? All of you seem way more informed so any help would be so great. Thanks
It's not your job to prove a debt isn't yours. It's the collection agency's job to prove it is. Send the validation letter to the collection agencies and follow up with estoppel if they do not satisfy validation. That should be enough to get them removed. Let the other one fall off by itself in November (assuming 11/95 is the accounts last activity date).
I would try to dispute the 11/95 one with the CRA's as obsolete, please delete. The 7 year mark is 6 months away, they may just remove it. The other debts I would send the validation to them, then about 2 weeks after they sign for them, dispute with the CRA's as not mine, hopefully you can catch them in a few violations!
And on a side note: You might want to reconsider paying that speeding ticket even if it was from 96... Odds are you are going to wind up in court over it or have your license revoked. To dispute is one thing, not to acknowledge it is another. Believe me when I say speeding tickets come back and bite you in the ass at the most embarrassing of moments... That being said, those are impressive scores with open collections... I must be doing something wrong... Anyone ever try dating a CRA rep? Bet that could help clear up your report...
