OK. Get this. I called GE Cap on Friday to find out why they are reporting a 30 day late on my CR BEFORE the card was even used. The CSA told me that it was for the annual fee which I did not pay on time. I explained that I had decided that I didn't want the card, never activated it, and that I'd called and told them that, and they reversed the fees. They had told me then that if I ever wanted to use the card, I could just activate, which I did about 6 months later. The guy at GE agreed that it was activated 6 months AFTER it was reported as late, but told me he couldn't do anything about the late as it WAS late. I asked how they could report a debt that I wasn't even legally obligated to pay, and he agreed that it was a mistake on their part. This is the good part -- GE's "official policy" is that they can't correct their errors with the CRA. They have to be officially disputed THRU the CRA. I said, "are you telling me that you made a mistake, but you can't correct your mistake?" He said yes. Tried to claim that there is no way to correct errors, but I told him I knew that wasn't the case. Then he told me that was just their official policy, and he couldn't help me. I'm getting ready to send a letter to GE compliance officer telling them that their "official policy" is in direct violation of the FCRA which discusses the furnisher's responsibility to correct inaccurate information. Thanks to you guys. I wouldn't have known my rights if I hadn't found this site.
WKN, That is a Bold Face Lie... I know that's not the Policy First Hand. Which Card are you talking about? Home Depot, Exxon, Lowes, Hi-Fi Buys, Best Buy, and the list goes on, or the Visa masterCards? I spent 15 years at that place and still have numerous connections. I ultimately know some rep gave you some hogwash!!!!!!! Need to know what card....
Yeah, I figured it was not true because no credit card company would be so foolish as to have "official policy" that is in direct violation of the FCRA. But I intend to send them a letter anyway because they need to know what their CSA are telling people. They are just asking for a lawsuit. They're just lucky it's me who doesn't like lawsuits except as a last resort. The scary thing is that TWO DIFFERENT CSAs told me similar things. One was a floor supervisor. It is a Productivity Visa Card. Business. Which is another issue -- I argued that they shouldn't even be reporting it on my personal credit report anyway as it is a business card which comes in the name of my incorporated business. They said because it's personally guaranteed, their policy is that it gets reported on my consumer report. I tried to tell them the there are FTC opinion letters which would argue that point, but they said it's company policy. I'm not really all that concerned about that issue because the account is current, and except for that one bogus late, doesn't negatively impact my credit.
oh so this is Business Credit? I knew that wasn't a retail financing policy... Bus Cred handled out of Ohio? I'd send that letter anyway. The second person you spoke with wasn't a supervisor, they are trained to get their fellow neighbor to handle the calls in the question of "Let me talk to your Manager" comes up. Fire that that letter off....
The latest from GE cust. serv . . . "a 30 day late won't hurt you as long as you keep paying your bills on time . . ." You know what bugs me? I'm starting to get as nasty and ugly toward creditors and such as they have been to me in the past. I hate that. The guy was actually trying to be nice, and I was ugly. It's just the industry in general. I've grown to hate it.
