Citibank Inquires

Ok, we all have all of those Citibank inquires from the BDD and sending letters via PFB for a lower APR or an increase in the CL.

My question concerns them pulling your credit report. If you have disputed inquires with Citibank, you know that they almost never come off.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    TIA

Ok, all of you wise creditnetters. I know that someone has learned the trick to Citi's trade?

They always seem to verify their inquiries any suggestions?

Did you ask them for proof? Something that has your sig giving them permission to pull your CR. Charlie

All of mine came off or were moved to the account review section upon my request to TU.

I've never had any Citi inquiries on Experian. The only inquiries I've ever had verify on Experian were Gulf State (due to fall off this September anyway so no big deal) and my credit union.

All other inquiries on my Experian report never verified. That's weird that Citi would verify to Experian and not to TU.

What I actually did with mine was this: I applied for Citi in March of 2001 and was denied. I applied in November and was approved. I then applied in February for a third card which generated two inquiries and was declined. Also in February I appied for Diners which generated two inquiries and was denied.

I disputed that the inquiry in March 2001 was the only valid hard and that all others should be account review or deleted. TU complied.

I agree...excellent tactic...I think I should wait unil these other two disputes subside before I include this tactic.

One interesting thing in the new Equifax FiCO simulator is that it says that FICO ignores inquiries over 12 months old (not the 24 months we all thought). So that one remaining Citi inquiry is already not included in my true FICO calculation.

They only thing is Citi pulled a hard inquiry on me last month, for asking for an APR reduction

I got an inquiry for a line increase removed, and it was only about 2-3 months old.

I called Citi first to tell them that I never requested the inquiry and to remove it from the reports. They refused so I disputed with Exp (At the time they were still accepting them on-line), it was removed.

    Hope this helps...

DaveLV, Doesn't that sound like TU is using the FCRA's language to it's benefit? They will delete a positive tradeline if you ask them to do any cosmetic changes to it, yet MOVE an inquiry if you challenge it. That is a clear double standard. Charlie

I don't disagree with you. The inquiry thing worked to my advantage though so I'm glad they did it.

I got a HARD inquiry from Citi for requesting a CL increase a few months ago. I specifically said on the phone that if a hard inquiry was necessary to forget it, it's not worth it to me. The rep said "Oh, no, we won't need to do that" I made her reassure me of it several times. I then checked CE and sure enough they had done a hard inquiry. I was furious and disputed it with EX. It came back verified. I then wrote a letter to Citi explaining that their rep EXPLICITLY told me no hard inquiry would be done and that I would NOT have pursued the CL increase if she had told me otherwise. The letter I received back was full of garbage. It was written almost as if they had never even looked at my letter and responded as though I was someone who "applied for credit and was denied" Completely false and not the case at all. I wasn't denied for ANYTHING and the only 'application' was when I initially opened the account last July. If they count a CL as an application, so be it, but I wasn't denied and I was told in no uncertain terms that a hard inquiry would NOT be done and I fully expected them to honor that not to hoodwink me.

I kinda let this one go - it happened in Jan. but now I think I'll write another letter as a response to their completely uninformed reply. I was pretty mad about this when it happened and I'm getting mad again just thinking about it.

So what is your new strategy? I want a piece of this one too.

I mean shit, just to lower the APR 1%. That dropped my score on CE by 11 points.
