Can I have your opinion?

    Hi everyone....

I am considering holding credit repair clinics in my neighborhood BUT I do see a problem with this - are people, in general, too embarassed to show up in person at a credit repair seminar? I'm inclined to think that since credit matters are extremely personal issues, many folks would be afraid they would be seen by someone they know.

Is this something that could be a problem?

I have found people very reluctant to accept help, or even talk about it. The internet gives at least the feeling of anonymity, it is much easier on here.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I try to think about how successful this board would be if it was not anonymous and I conclude it might not even still be in existence if it were not for the anonymity.

You could do individual counseling on credit issues if you had the time. This might cut down on the nervousness about someone recognizing them...although I'm not sure it would be successful regardless.

Have you considered maybe trying to have lectures at high schools and/or colleges? Usually by the time a kid is in college, if he/she is clueless about credit, they will have issues before they graduate from college.

Just a thought. I think its a wonderful idea...unfortunately you can't help someone who won't let you.

Perhaps if you teamed up with a mortgage broker, it would break the barrier - lots of folks want to buy houses, and might be motivated enough to attend a clinic on that basis. Somehow, attending something that's connected with buying a home seems to take the sting out of it.

I think the reason the CRA's, CA's, etc have gotten away with so much for so long, is the shame and embarrassment that's attached to having bad credit. I know I was afraid to even look at my own credit report for years.

I have thought about private counseling sessions. It's definitely something I could do in the evenings. The idea about schools isn't a bad one either.

So was I breeze! I filed BK in 1997 and didn't even THINK about looking at a report until 2001!

Make it a Credit Annoyomous(sp). Kinda like Alcoholic's or Narcotic's. That might make people feel at ease. Great idea. Charlie

That is a real shame because it assist the industry in putting the screws to consumers.

lbrown....this is one of those rare occasions where I definitely agree with you. If people were more empowered and understood how the system works, the consumer would be MUCH better off.

They have only done what we let them do .
They can only put on us what we will accept.

It's so far down now stopping it is a major task.

not only shame and embarassment, people realy feel that it does not work . They feel you can not fix thier credit. Have you guys notice the news lately? they are telling people that credit repair is a acam if offered, and that only time and good payments can do the repair. So unfortunatley many stay away from trying to do anything about thier credit. I tell people I have had succes, subprime status 525 to 755 and they do not beleive me or do not understand. It so sad :( I think the people who find there way to the board and take hold of ther information are very rare and exceptional, may at this time in thier life, or maybe they have allways been this this way but they are definietly no the norm.
