Well...I called today to check the status. Here's the timeline:

5/24: Mailed application and deposit back
6/12: Called to check status and was advised that....
6/24: Account will be set up
    7/08: Cards will be mailed
7/12: Estimated arrival time of cards

    Wow...that's a LONG PROCESS! :-\

MP$40...I had asked several days ago if it was a good idea to go with the secured Chase just to get my foot in the door, but received no answers. What were your reasons for going with their secured card?

I also received the offer when I was declined for their regular card, but hesitated to go the secured route, because often times once you have their secured, you can't get them to unsecure it. Also, I guess I just don't feel like my scores are low enough to have to secure a card...even through Chase. I think it was either Fleet or BofA that also offered me secured.

Anyway...oh...also...do they report this as a secured card?

The first time I applied (and got denied by the way) called 800-48Chase and requested that they send me an application. The second time I applied for a standard classic card and was denied but offered their secured card. All I had to do was full out the mini form that they provided and mail w/ a check.

How much of a limit can you get with the secured card?

I think you can deposit minimum $300 and a maximum of $5000. It's up to you. You have to deposit in $100 incraments and you can make deposits to increase your limit at any time.

That's GREAT. When I tried for the Capital One secured card, they offered me a $200 limit with a $199 deposit! I let that offer go....then like 8 months down the line they bugged me via EMAIL to take them up on their offer, so I did. Long story short, they lost my deposit, messed up my application, and lied to me saying that my card was in the mail (when the account was never even set up). I wrote (then) Mr. Miller (now Mr. Cooke) via PFB and he called me the next morning. I faxed him a copy of my canceled check for $199 and not only did he set me up with an UNSECURED account ($200 limit) he refunded my deposit ASAP and apologized for my troubles.

Then when I did the Citi BDD, I called to cancel Capital One and all they could do was *possibly* wave my annual fee in 2 months and give me a $200 increase (SIKE!). So I closed anyway...but I logged into that account the next day and they gave me the increase anyway.

Aren't those damn monkeys cute? LOL...

    Whyspers:

Sorry, didn't see your post. My ATTBI internet has been down for almost a week. Now my posts here are getting lost in cyber space. I just posted the stuff below a few minutes ago but it disappeard.

I did the secured card to build a relationship wtih Chase. I want to eventually replace both my Providians with Chase, thus leaving me with bank cards from AMEX, Citi, MBNA, and Chase. That's pretty impressive, huh?

I don't think it reports as secured. I can't remember what the vertict was on that. Let me do a search...
