Perhaps these are silly Qs, but I can't find the answers, so...: 1) How do you dispute off prior addresses that were once valid, since they are properly listed in the 'Former Addresses' section? 2) Why would this be a useful thing to do? I've read posts that discussed doing this but didn't highlight the reasoning or strategy behind it. Thanks...
I have disputed prior addresses as "haven't lived there in ten years, etc. What happens is whoever lives there now, is getting collection notices for you, (lovely, huh) My parents address is listed as a former address for me, of course, from back in high school, and I occasionally get things there. I requested them to be deleted, and EQ told me they were to be deleted, and then they showed back up. Good luck to you. I am working on old debts, so I will contact them shortly to re-delete them.
You will have to dispute it the same way you dispute other information, This is useful because often times when a company reports a negative listing they use your address to find you and to link you to the debt. If it is not listed, why by golly it must not be you! Also, this protects the people living at the new address to get YOUR collection letters,
Thanks, Stacey! Out of curiosity, if deleted addresses later show up again, as happened to you, is that because one of your creditors is reporting it as current? If so, is there a way of finding out who is reporting it, so you can get rid of them directly? I'm betting this will happen to me since I have moved a lot. It's too bad the CRs don't list dates too for the addresses, so you can get an idea of who the culprit is according to the dates listed... Good luck with yours!
