I have a repo from 1998 that is showing a "date of status: 04/2002". I just called Experian to make sure what the date of status really is. Of course, he danced around the answer and tried to say its the date it was last reported and I asked him "then why is there a last reported section" and he acted like he didn't understand what I was talking about but he finally gave in and said yes, that is when the repo happened. (I have to wonder if Exp. purposely doesnt teach their people this stuff or if they just tell them to play dumb). So basically I have a repo from 1998 reporting as if it happened 2 months ago. He asked me what it should say and I said "it should say deleted". He wanted me to give him info but I learned not to do that somewhere :).

Anyway my dispute is going out tommorrow but my question is, where does it say that this kind of re-aging is illegal. It is still scheduled to come off at the right time, but now its a recent derog that is obviously holding me back...........(hmmm maybe some willfull non-compliance or something technical like that).

    Thanks for the help.

    From ftc opinion letter:

    http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra/amason.htm

.... In enacting the new provisions discussed above, Congress intended to establish a date certain -- 180 days after the start of the delinquency that led to the chargeoff -- to begin the obsolescence period......

    Re-aging is illegal.

yea but it is still going to come off at the right time, they are just showing it as a current repo, which is affecting my score. I really just want the thing to be deleted. Its still coming off in 7 years. I did a search on reaging and found some good info but I am gonna send my dispute tommorrow and I need a good letter.

    Thanks,

Did this account get re-aged after you disputed it or was it always reporting this way...or just now reported?

    Thanks!
