    Don't ever send a copy of a canceled check to proove you paid something because they can collect on the same check twice!
    This has happened to me more than once.Most recently yesterday with Sprint PCS.

    Never again will I ever send anybody a copy of a canceled check.

    Huh? Now how can they do that? If it happened once, why would you do it a second time?

    1* Present it to your bank for payment.

    2*Because I thought it was a freek rare occurance that wasn't to likely to happen again.Guess I Was Wrong Wasn't I?
    Also I paid Sprint 42 dollars in 2/02 that they never credited to my account so they asked me to send a copy of the canceled check,so I did.Wrong move!

    What if you black out the acct and routing infomation? Also isn't this illegal? Do they just process the check electronically seeing that it's a copy?

    1*MY New Policy:From now on I will simply cut the bottom off the copy before sending it.
    Wonder what caused me to do that?
    2*Think so If It's intentional,but they would just claim it was an error.
    3*That's the picture I got from my bank when I talked to them about it today.

    This is called criminal conversion and is highly illegal.

    We reveive fax checks all the time. Through the use of special software we can make a new check and cash it without a signature. It's also very highly penalized for misbehavoir.

    Nice little law suit ya got there IB.

    I would file suit immediately as well as file complaints with any licensing commissions of bureaus they are regulated under.

    This is total BS and if someone ever did that to me they would be paying me big time!

    I hope you won't just sit on this and take it!

    Good Luck!

    I feel really bad for you. In the future, I would suggest writing in bold letters "THIS IS A PHOTOCOPY OF PAYMENT THAT WAS ALREADY SENT" and make a copy of THAT for your own records. Definitely call them on it. Good luck!

    ========
    I did.
    Sprint claimed when I called them that they never got a $42.oo payment from my bank .

    My bank has paid them 42 bucks on the same check twice once on 2-19-2 and again on 7-15-2, yet Sprint denies receiving either of the 42 dollar payments.

    The bank is sending me copies of the checks sprint collected on from them.
    It will be interesting to see what I get from the bank.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I send Sprint check # 484 for $42.00 on 2/10/2. Bank pays them the $42 on 2-19-2.
    Sprint never credits it claiming they never got it and ask for a copy of the canceled check.
    7-10-2 I mail them the photo copy of original check 484 cashed on 2-19-2.
    7-16-2 I called my bank - learn check 484 for $42.00 was paid from my checking account on 7-15-2
    Sprint could not have collected on original check 484 on 7-15-2 as the original canceled check has always been in my possession since 2-19-2. The only thing they could have gotten paid from on 7-15-2 is the copy of check 484.
    ```````````````````````````````` Sprint has not credited the $42 taken from my checking account on 2-19-2 for the original check and now they deny having received the other $42 my bank gave them on 7-15-2.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    How much worse can it get?

    You mean; how much better can it get.

    These jokers used special software to draft another check using account and routing numbers from the copy you sent. Now they KNOW they're in trouble and are lying.

    YOU MEAN YOU HAVEN'T CALLED YOUR LAWYER YET?????

    Mention criminal conversion and see what he says.

    Keep us posted IB.

    Sprint did it again:
    This time with two checks.
    On 7-18-2 they cashed check 484 that they had just cadhed on 7-15-2 which orig.was paid on 2-19-2.
    This is 3 times they got paid on this check.

    On 7-18-2 they cashed check 616 that they had just cashed on7-15-2.This makes 2 times they collected on check 616.

    This is so very illegal, and so easy to prove. If you just point it out to your bank, I'm sure that they will correct it right away. They should never have allowed multiple withdrawals from your account with 1 check number, so you really should have both these companies scrambling to fix this RIGHT NOW!!!
