Hi folks. I am ready for some CL increases on my cards and am wondering what is the best method for obtaining them without generating any inquiries on my credit reports. The cards in question are:

    Citibank Platinum
    Discover Platinum
    Amex Blue

I know that I can go to my account on the web and request an increase there, but is this the best method? Does this produce hard or soft inquiries? Am I best off to call and request an increase? How about the CitiBDD, does that still work?

    I appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Discover will pull a hard inquiry, almost everytime. Even if you contact them and ask for a soft inquiry they refuse. The only way to get a CL increase wo/ a hard is to wait until your anniverary date. But those are usually very small.

Citibank Platinum - I have no idea.

Amex Blue is the easiest. Lesson - do not apply for a CL increase online. They pull a hard inquiry. The best way is to contact Blue and have them transfer you to Centurion Bank. The rep will look at your payment history with them, your balance, etc. and ask for your gross income. They will also ask how much you would like to increase it to. I have tried this way five times (every six months) and they have never pulled my report.

    Hope this helps.

I have never asked for a line increase. They have always given them to me unsolicited. I exercise my credit by borrowing close to the limit and carrying a balance for a few months and making large payments. I always take "teaser rates", I have leverage my credit to over $150,000 this way.

    I AM NOT GEORGE.
Amex has been my best creditor, but I don't have them as a personal account, I have them as a corporate account and they are not included in my $150,000 portfolio.

I had Amex Blue, originally was an Optima card that they automatically converted to Blue for me. Had the card for almost 6 years and never any increase. I logged onto the website the other day and clicked on request an increase and got a screen that says I qualified for a $500 auto increase!!!

You DON'T have to deal with the "GEORGE FACTOR"...

Mook, what was your CL before the auto increase? Most of us fine that once your CL gets above $15K they will not increase your CL without a hard inquiry and what amounts to a mini application.
    Just what I have found.
