MBNA called today to verify information on my recent application, asking for identity verification and questions about investments, assets, employment, etc.

They said I would be qualified for their WorldCard at 11.9% and a 5K CL, assuming everything "checked-out." They asked that I fax a copy of a recent check stub.

    Uh-Oh!!

The problem is I exaggerated my income by about 20%. I suppose I shot myself in the foot on this one.

Do you think they overlook this, or just let it slide?

Don't get the "WORLD CARD" unless you want N/A for the credit limit...

Did they ask for "YOUR" income or H/H income???

Your 401k, SAVINGS, STOCK, HOUSE APPRECIATION, GRANDMA SENDS YOU $1,000 AT CHRISTMAS EVERY YEAR...(there are a BUNCH of other things that are REAL to increase income)...

Even if you're not married - you can say that your significant other makes the other 20% - I don't think they'll ask for verification of that.

Well, they asked me for a check stub to verify MY income. I remenber on the application that they categorized income into several categories:

    1. Your Employer
    2. Investment Income
    3. Total Household

Thanks for your suggestion, though. They promised to call me back if there were any inconsistancies. I will definately use the "GRANDMA SENDS ME MANY $$$ EVERY CHRISTMAS" idea!!!

THAT ISN'T FAKE IN MY CASE (CHRISTMAS MONEY)...EXCEPT IT IS TOO LOW...(AND IT IS MY AUNT)...

    GOOD LUCK...(you will need it).

F.Y.I. I have NOT been able to get a LIMIT INCREASE in 6+ years...BUT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE "GEORGE FACTOR"!!!

For the record - which cc companies HAVE given you increases?

    TARGET VISA
    BofA
    FLEET
    DISCOVERCARD (WAITED YEARS)
    CITIBANK (1/2 BDD)

MBNA DID GIVE ME $1,000 THEN $500 LIKE 6.5 YEARS AGO...(10+ year cardholder)

F.Y.I. I think I had my BEST luck with FIRST USA (INCREASES IN LIMIT)...too bad they thought that was a request to increase the INTEREST RATE!!!

They lost all 3 of our accounts...(ABOUT $72,000)...

BUT MOST OF IT (no increases in limit) IS THE "GEORGE FACTOR"...

What was your total credit utilization - on all your cards - when FUSa jacked your rate. Do you remember?

Can you tell them you get a 20% year-end bonus at work?

I know that this sounds horrible...but!

Do you work within a small company?

Do you have a working relationship with the person whom would be giving the "over the phone income verification" from your work to MBNA?

If so, maybe, just possibly, they could miscalculate your income by say...20%?

I have worked in payroll off and on for years and know that this kind of thing happens all too often.

Like I said this is horrible....but it just might work!!!

I work for the State of Florida - so it is very likely they could screw up something. But they are asking to be faxed a copy of my check stub. No margin for error there, unfortunately.

Maybe I could say that I have direct deposit (which is true) and that I have no check stub to send.

Then they may call - most likely someone would screw up!

the reason i'm asking is because i'm trying to figure out why First USA jacked your rate. i was thinking that it might have been due to high credit utilization on other cards - NOT that I'm justifying them jacking you - just wanted to see if there was a METHOD TO THE MADNESS.

P.S. congrats on your soon to be 10,000 post :)
