August is my 1 year anniversary date for my GetSmart Visa with a $1,000 CL. I have probably charged close to $8,000 (mostly business expenses) on this card over the past year and have occassionally left a small balance on the card. I have never received a CL increase on the card and was wondering if I could expect something from them? Also my card expires in August, anyone have one of their cards expire lately? How soon could I expect a new card? Thanks! Jim
You should get a new card in the first week of AUGUST. PROVIDIAN is have $$$$$ trouble...(increase...maybe...maybe not)... You can always call and ask for a limit increase...(NO HARD)!!!
They charge either 49 or 99 dollars for credit line increases. i have had the getsmart for 2 years. Every 6 months they would send me an offer of a line increase. I started at 250.00 2 years ago. now im at 5,000.00. I went overlimit a few months back, and haven;t recieved another offer. its been 8 months. since last increase.
I actually got my new card last night, it was a Providian Gold to replace my GetSmart Classic. Is the GetSmart product disappearing? While I have only used the "smart chip" feature with my free reader I was somewhat disapointed not still have that capability. The note said that my new card had the same limits and terms as my old card and the same # as well. I may call and try to request a CL increase though. Anyone know if it would be a hard or a soft inquiry? Thanks!
Hi Boomer, I did get a replacement card for my Get Smart classic visa but, I got the standard blue classic providian card. My limit is $3200 but did not get the gold visa. Anyways, my annual fee is $59 and if I don't get it waived this year I will cancel. I think Providian is phasing out the Get Smart visas. I have not received a credit line increase in a year and I think they are harder to get since Providian got in trouble.
I am just hitting my 1 year anniversary and the CL is still $1,000. I have never had an icrease offer (free or otherwise). My annual fee is $59 I believe.
Boomer, when I first got my Providian card back in July 2000 it was a Aria visa card with $1000 cl. I called after a year of using the card to request a credit line increase and the lady said the computer reviews the accounts every month to see if you qualify for an increase. I did ask the lady to note my account that I am interested in a credit line increase even if it involves a fee. Well, about a month later I got a credit line increase offer. The offer was for a $2000 credit line increase for a $49 fee. But those days of getting huge credit line increases are gone.
Hello, I have this card, and I would recommend that you get out while you can. I have two Providian cards - 1 GetSmart, and the other was converted to a Providian classic card. I have always paid well over the mininum TWICE a month for both accounts. On my first account with them, I was offered credit line increases. On the second account, I have never received an increase offer. No late pays, nothing negative regarding the accounts. What I dd receive for being a loyal and valuable customer was a wonderful surprise when I called to inquire about a line increase. I was informed that my APR was changing to 29.99% in August. Hooray for me!! They told me that they sent me several notices with my monthly bill notifying me of this wonderful change. (Note: they didn't) I requested a duplicate copy of the change in terms, and received a copy of the supposed December notice. The notice basically states that if you ever have a late pay, they would increase the APR. In the letter that was drafted to my both Providian's "Executive Office" (yeah RIGHT) They stated that they also change the terms in April, but did not provide a copy of this change in terms in the letter. She states that she has thirty days to send me this information. Well, in thirty days the new APR will take place, and REALLY decreases my chances of disputing there claims being that I don't even know what I am disputing!!! I have already spoken to my lawyer, and he is telling me to first locate another card for a balance transfer or a small loan to pay the debt immediately. Secondly, to sit back and wait for the class action lawsuit, because it will happen. I REALLY hope this helps you make a decision. You may not have the same Terms and Conditions as I, but you are a Providian customer, and they have proven that the customer is not the number one priority. Again, get out while you can.
SORRY, you can NOT have a "CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT" against a company that is having MAJOR FINANCIAL TROUBLES. The stock was in a range of $40-$70---->FRIDAY CLOSE $3.27 This may follow NEXTCARD into BK and DEATH... PVN if you don't believe me. NXCD was the letters for the DEAD NEXTCARD.
