I have 3 First USA cards, a 10K buy.com card, $8,400 GE Rewards, and $10.5K e.card. First USA CSR tells me today that they will ONLY increase credit lines (CLs) after doing a hard inquiry. Also says that's true EVEN IF I do a BT with him. Also says that on my buy.com line, I have a promo of 2.99% interest for 6 months with no fees. Also the BT is coded as a purchase. Sure enough, the same offer is available on the web site. This offer doesn't appear on either of my other lines. Questions: -Is the point about CLs true? One would think there'd be a way to get a better limit. -How long is an offer like this likely to last (CSR wasn't sure, says it is "revolving")? Is this offer pretty common or just so-so for these folks? -Is there a number for retention or something similar that can swing a better deal on either of these? Thanks, Dave
I said NO INQUIRY for a limit increase when I had FIRST USA...they did a $5,000 increase NO INQUIRY...BUT WHEN I DID A BT MONTHS LATER...THEY DID A "HARD"...I disputed it gone...BUT THE STUPIDITY OF A "HARD" ON AN EXISTING CREDIT LIMIT!!!
Thanks George...so at least in your case, they gave you the CL increase without the inquiry. Do you recall how long ago that was, and what you did to get it, if anything?
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO...before I was "JACKED"... All I said was I was interested if I could get a limit increase..."I HAVE A PERFECT HISTORY FOR X YEARS...NO INQUIRY OR FORGET IT...an 'INQUIRY' will do DAMAGE to my credit score"
I have a First USA/Southwest Airlines Plat card for almost 2 years now. They gave me a $5k CL increase on my anniversary date without me asking and they never pulled a hard inquiry either. I get BT checks in the mail all the time for 0.9 to 9.99 depending on the duration of the transfer, but they still charge a BT fee on all of them. Greg
