Anyone, Does anyone know how much you can sue for inquiries made into your credit file with nonpermissable purpose? I would like to go to the court house today and file against RMA for making 2 inquiries into my credit file after I had paid them off. I paid them off in two installments - one on 09/28/01 and the other on 10/28/01. Since then, they have made inquiries into my report in December of 2001 and January of 2002. They are not doing this because they may be collecting another debt from me. Any ideas on how much? So much to learn...... Sirrowan
I would look in the FCRA to see, but I think it's a max of $1k per violation. They may be liable for more though, read the FCRA.
Not to mention the fact that inquiries lower your credit score and so often times you might be paying a higher interest rate...so that might count as damages depending on the circumstances. L
