    dogman, congrats....

I got my Dell Inspiron 8100 last Dec. It's been working like a charm.

I was approved for $2500 with a bk-13 on file from 1996. I think my scores range from 640-650 at the that time.

I did have a fun time trying to get Dell customer service to call Dell Financial and confirm that I did pass the credit check.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

    DEROGS - yup!!!!

Hi all - Most of you all know but YES, I do have a discharged Ch 13 on EXP - and TU and EQX. I still have 7 bankcards showing as included in BK.

The most interesting thing is how they do the process:

I logged into My Account - I am a current DELL customer....

I applied from a pop-up AD, BEFORE looking at their stuff!!! It had me type in my social and mother's maiden, then, click click - it said PROCESSING....

    I lit up a cigarette, called a friend, had a delivery from SAFEWAY, rolled a j - then - Click -
"Congratulations - you are CONDITIONALLY APPROVED for a $1500 credit line. When you place your order, please select the "Conditionally accepted" box and finalize your credit application and accept your terms."

arrff - I was tempted to get a new system, but this Dude is working fine, even with a few browswer funks.
I also get the idea with DELL that if you DO NOT buy something, the account may never actually be opened. LOL...

BUT the BIG DRAW is DELL is a quality manufacturer, and, the account is OPEN ENDED!

I did not qualify for 90 days no payments. I am sure if you have scores even MID 600s, you probably get a higher limit and a lower rate.
They do not tell you your rate until you are placing the final order and requesting the financing - you must accept the offer for the order to complete.

Ioan - I would DEFINITELY go to dell.com, pick out the computer you want, then call DELL and tell them you will oreder it but even with a 632, you couldnot get approved.

They WILL APPROVE YOU with a sale on the line, AND, it will be a good building reference for you.

    Do it DUDE!

imlost, I have seen people get approved with scores in your range.

Now, say you get approved for 2k LOC and you don't actually use it right away. Would it show up on your CR as 0 balance, 1500 LOC or CL? Charlie

Imlost - I would try it - why not? All that can happen is you might be approved for a PC!

CharliesLEX - I haven't seen the reporting yet - but maybe somebody like Mirage could answer.

tried it, said 'unable to complete due to technical difficulties, please try again later or call blah blah'

maybe that is a good thing, i have a good chance of being declined and the inquiry would probably hurt my scores

sometimes it just plain sucks making decent money and not being able to get 1/10th the credit i could get when i was 18 and unemployed.
    system is arse-backwards

    Amen.

But I do hope that living without credit for several years instilled certain habits in me that make it unlikely I will end up living paycheck to paycheck -- that's the bright side of credit problems. I work in the financial services industry, among some fairly bright and savvy people who make decent money, and should know better, yet a lot of them live paycheck to paycheck. Although it will be nice to be able to buy something without paying cash for it, I hope to never become dependant on credit, as they are.

DFS does report but I think every three months. I noticed that it took forever for my account to appear and my last account update was in June/2002.

My account is listed as an installment loan.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

Thanks Mirage. I was thinking, I have a friend in the nid 500's and they don't want to pay alot of upfront charges on a secured CC. That's about all they can get, but if they can get a Dell LOC with mid 500 and not use it right away that would help them rebuild with a positive tradeline. Example, if they got a Dell LOC and say it was for 1500 and didn't use it it would be a good boost in their ratios. Charlie

Has anyone tried the above thread? It would be better than a secured card or loan. Charlie

"Unfortunately we are unable to extend you credit through Dell Preferred Account
    at this time.

CIT OnLine Bank will mail you a letter explaining the reasons for the credit decision and the name of the consumer reporting agency within the next thirty days. Included will be the address of that agency and an explanation of your rights to receive a personal copy of your credit history, should you need to dispute any inaccurate or incomplete information in your file.
    "

i swear..there is something about my credit report that gets me denied quickly everytime. my experian high 500's. The letters they send telling you why you are denied are too vague to be of any help.

Is Dell credit related to Citibank in any way?
