I'm pissed! A guy called trying to sell a mortgage re-finance. I told him that in the next year or so, (after total remodeling is complete) we may be interested, and to send his info to me in the mail, which he did. Lo and behold, I check our EX reports today, and we each have a hard inquiry from this company. This is the same guy that I educated on credit when he called. He said inquiries don't hurt, which led to me explaining how they did and it evolved into a long conversation on HIS personal credit. He even asked if he could call me from home if he had more questions. Well, there will be more questions, and I'll be the one asking them! All you experts, how do I go about getting my $2000???????

A name and address is really all they need to get it. Social Security number is not necessary.

Right, when they say they want to verify your address, hang up.

But I really did want the information for future reference, so I gave him my address, never thought they'd pull this.

I have had several of these calls where telemarketers call and ask to verify my address.. Instead of confirming any information I just tell them I am NOT interested in the crap they are trying to sell me and hang right up.. ITS SHOCKING to know the idea of people pulling up your credit report without a SSN..
