Was just surfing around to see if I could find out anything about Household Retail Services. I'm anal about making sure all of my bills are mailed on time but it seems that HRS takes forever to post them.

Anyway, I'm surfing around and I found a posting from some government entitiy (I forget which one) that says that if you mail your payment in an envelope other then the one they provide you, they can sit on your payment for 5 days. To add salt to the wound, they can still cash your check but they don't have to post it for those 5 days. Can you say "late fees"?

I do most of my bill paying online but HRS takes forever no matter whose envelope I use. Has anyone else noticed this?

I have read other posts off this happening. My suugestion is to mail the minimum due the day you get the bill. Then make your normal payment when you usually would..No late fee worry then.

I posted something a while back, but I can't recall from where...it basically stated something about a payment has to be posted the day it was received if not posting it could cause late fees or other adverse action. I just can't recall if this was part of TiL or what particular act it was from.

    Whyspers,

That is part of the TILA, it's a hard thing to prove though, yes? unless you are sending bills certified or otherwise.

I'd like to find a way to prove this, maybe enough of a history showing the lates and common knowledge of their practice from other consumers would be enough -- seems iffy though.

I've the same problem :-( with one getting-rich-by-imposing-fees company.

I truly must question what is going on at HRS. I find it very hard to believe that it takes a week for my bar-coded mail to get from Texas to California. My car payment goes to California also and when I mail them at the same time, the car payment consistenly shows up 2-4 days earlier.

As much as I abhor sensationalistic journalism, I have to believe that there's more here then meets the eye. From what little I observed on another web site, everyone was consistenly complaining about payments taking forever to post. Many of the postings were rather juvenile but the overall theme was consistent.

I wonder if there's a way to electronically track something going through the mail system?

HRS is Household Retail Service, yes?

Is that different from the cards issued by Household Bank?

Curious because I've a household m/c and pay online without penalty or grief -- they've been great to work with.

I'm guessing and asking, with the HRS the same online payment option isn't available?

    LOL George,

That's exactly my problem, the mortgage.

From here (AZ) to Texas, yeah I know Texas is big but c'mon! 12-15 days.

I even paid once for 2 day delivery, I KNOW it got there in 2 days but it wasn't posted until 12 days later.

I'm gonna frame that 2-day receipt!

Why do you think the CC Companies got the legal paid date changed from the post mark to date received.?

That is part of the TILA, it's a hard thing to prove though,

Sure is: You weren't there when they got it were you?

My MORTGAGE payment has taken as long as 9 days from CO to OK...(

It only takes 3 days for out of town mail delivery.
Why are payments setting around in one of their back offices for days and weeks after they get it?
