surprise. I asked a couple of weeks ago how hard it was to get a Home Depot card and then I read that they were moving from Monogram to Citibank which I already have a closed card from always current but closed by them nonetheless a few years ago. So I decided to give Lowes a try and got turned down initially. Imagine my surprise when I opened my mail box with my new Lowes card in there and a small 500 dollar limit which won't buy me my refrigrator that I want so I will just put it in my wallet and let the limit increase over time. Maybe I will use it once or twice on some small things Less than 25 bucks or something just to show some use so they will up my limit:) I guess the fridge is going to have to wait.
Hey but this is the first store credit card I have gotten since I improved my credit. Thanks Creditnet:) OH and I also got approved for Dell too in July so I have a new puter as well. I am paying that baby off before Christmas:)

How soon do you need the refrig?

If you have a few months, use the card for small purchases monthly and pay it off each month. When you are ready for the refrig, either go in and try it, mention to the saleman that you need a limit increase or at least mention you aren't sure if your limit is high enough and he call in for an increase - or call the CC company first and ask for a limit increase, telling them you need an increase for a refrig.

I would go in and try it - a lot of times they will raise your limit to the purchase amount, when you make a purchase. But if you'll be embarassed to have it declined, call and ask first.

"I WANT TO BUY THIS FRIDGE...BUT MY "JOKE" CREDIT LIMIT IS $500...HOW BAD TO YOU WANT THE SALE"???

SOMETIMES they can put in a "PENDING" sale to the credit department...

***THEY KNOW THEY LOSE IT~~~IF THEY DON'T APPROVE IT***

I agree with GEORGE. If you walk in to buy the fridge with a $500 card I bet you'll walk out with a fridge. They aren't going to let a CL get in the way of a sale. What are your scores? Charlie

My partner got a $1000 limit ... called the day the card arrived and said "won't cut it" and they instantly increased to $2500.

A different story with Depot (still GE/Monogram) ... got $1250, called and said "not enough" ... they asked "how much would you need" ... we said "what's the highest you can go" ... $9,500. 45 seconds, one call, lovely indian woman. It's all in the system - they have a "max limit" that they can go to.

It wouldn't hurt to tell 'em you're looking at the GE Monogram fridge :)

    Good luck-

Thanks guys:) I am going to wait on the fridge anyway till probably next spring. We rent and my landlord should supply us with a better refridgerator anyway. Our seal on the fridge here is completely pulled away from the door.
Anyway, about my scores. I am not sure what bureau they pulled but they are all in the low to mid 600s. Equifax being my best and trans union my worst. I think my CE score is 628 right now.
I want a side by side refridgerator and I want to buy one that we plan on using when we buy our first home in about 3-4 years. It is nice to know I can get the card so that boosted my ego.

Charlie - When he got the preapproved it was about 680. I have 15k with Depot and I'm just over 700.
