I am slowing weeding through my credit report, trying to figure out what is what.... I'm at the point of verifying inquiries. I had two companies that I can't for the life of me remember requesting credit from (or asking for a job!). The companies are: Capital One and Providian Financial. They each pulled a report from both TU & EX. for a total of 4 on one day! The other interesting thing is that EX updated my employer info on the same date to USPS (US postal service?) which is not my place of employment. Should I look at fraud investigation? I don't see any accounts listed which aren't mine. I'm thinking maybe someone made an application? As for the inquiries, should I just call. I honestly can't remember applying for anything that would pull a request from them, but I could be wrong. My memory's not as good as it used to be. Thanks
Also does anyone know who: Triton/Sunco is? Found it....AT&T suncom wireless phone, but they pulled my report as I was moving and cancelling my phone service? Can they do that?
Welcome to the board! I think I would dispute the employment, and watch very carefully for other inaccuracies. Do you have a common name? It could be indications of someone using your identity, or of creditors/employers getting you mixed up with someone else. Check your other reports also.
Hi Breeze, Thank you for the welcome and reply. I assume I can correct the employment with the CRA directly. I'm not sure if my name is common, but there has usually always been one other person in the city with the same name (known by phone book listing). Where I live now, there is someone where I work with the same name, different middle name (our departmental mail is always mixed up). As to the inquiries, I have seen people sending letters about "permissable" inquiries. I don't recall giving Capital One and Providian permission to pull one report, let alone two. I'm also pretty certain that I wouldn't tell AT&T wireless (triton/suncom) to pull my record when I'm closing the account. They pulled it when I opened the account a year prior.
Don't have any employment information on your credit files. Simply dispute your employment history as incorrect and it will be removed. In fact, Equifax does not keep employment history any longer and will remove your history if asked. The LESS personal information on your report the better.
