Interesting...they based my letter on TU...which has the fewest accounts reporting and the lowest score.

    I feel for ya!

They are a slime bank, I know they are having financial problems, but thats no reason to treat their loyal customers like dirt. I havent used my so called Platinum(14.9% APR) in 2 1/2 years, and will never use it again.

If providian is so bad, who do you suggest for someone who has really bad credit? I previously was using providian until my card number got stolen. My credit score has dropped from 569 to 521 after canceling this stolen card. What are my options for credit cards in order to contiune to build my credit history? Btw, the score is from equifax credit watch.

Orchard Bank isn't bad either. A little on the pricey side though. Fee is $69 a year and the APR is 18.9%. You might be able to do a little better with Cap 1.

I'm not too worried about the apr. I have paid my balance in full for the 13 months I had the providian card. I think I applied to capital one before and was denied. Does anyone know for sure of a college card or secured card, or other that i would FOR SURE be approved for. Preferbly no anual fees.

    Try Orchard.
I have a small unsecured card with them for about one year. Same length as Providian. Orchard has very slow increases, 200 to 550 in a year. You get a lot, and I mean a lot of unwanted advertising from them. You can pay your account online. www.orchardbank.com

I was denied for Cap 1 a year ago, Orchard and Providian accepted me. They sent me a letter requesting more information first, though. They wanted paycheck stubs.

So, I got Orchard, then Providian (same month), then Spiegel, then Sears, and most recently Texaco and Cap 1. Everyone except Providian is less than 600$ CL. Providian is a goner, which will leave Orchard at 550 CL as my highest.

Orchard's customer service agents are nice, I've never received contradicting information from them. Providian agents, on more than one occasion have said the exact opposite of each other! I accept confusion though, I'm a nice customer. I always start off with a nice attitude, and it takes a lot to get me irritable with an innocent customer service agent.

Do you happen to recall which cra orchard pulls? My TU report and EXP is almost spotless. My equifax is still bad, waiting on dispute replies. How bout which cra citi bank pulls? I'd love to have virtual numbers for online purchases which citi offers.

    Superman,

Orchard pulled Experian when I initially applied 3 years ago. They pulled it again 6 months ago prior to giving me a $500 increase.

I just looked over my experian report. Orchard must of solicited me as they had an inquiry about a year ago. I probably tore it up seeing an anual fee or something. Do you pay an anual fee for your Orchard?

Thought of another question. LOL, Sorry. When I recieve thoose preapproved credit card letters, are they really approved? Or is that just a gimick to get you to apply?

    "PRE-APPROVED" TO APPLY...

But usually the card offers are BETTER than many people get just calling on the phone, or mailing for an application...

They have a HIGHER PERCENTAGE of approvals also...

    Superman,

My annual fee with Orchard is $69. However, since they are now owned by Household Bank I'm going to try to get my Orchard MC account converted to the a Household MC. Right now this account has a $15 credit balance and I've never been late or over the limit.

Household has a union members credit card with no annual fee and a better APR. I'm going to write to my contact there and see if she'll help.
