I know many people hate Aol, but since they are always giving me free credits every time i call, i use them. That said, has anyone upgraded to 8.0? How does it work? Any problems? humblemarc
At work, I upgraded to AOL 8.0. Personlly for myself I did not upgrade AOL on any of my machines at home. I basically did it at work when one of my coworkers said he liked the new layout. I really do not have much of an opinion. They layout is nice. From what I understand AOL 8.0 is "skin-able" which means you can creat different looks, but I have never really liked using AOL per se because I find the application bulky. Really the only time I use it at work is when our firewall is acting up and I need to tunnel through an entirely different connection. So I guess all in all I do like the layout, like that you can choose different looks and themes. I think the application on a technical side is supposed to be more friendly to Windows 98 and ME users as well.
I've had AOL for a long time now, and quite frankly it has gotten way too expensive. AOL 7 was horrible, I don't know about version 8. I'm planning on moving to a true ISP. It's cheaper.
I tried 7.0 about a month ago. Worst internet experience of my life. After about 20 hours of calling them and going thru my system they finally told me to sign on thru AOL and use Explorer. Two days later, I bought Money2003. Bad move. I'm not very computer savvy, so I thought that AOL would be able to handle Explorer 6.0. Again, bad move. I did find out that 8.0 is compatible with Explorer 6.0, but I had to send my computer out to get fixed and a free year wouldn't get me to even try it. I have heard other people say that they have had no problems with them, but I'm not very smart so I need something idiot proof. Charlie
I maybe should mention that I access aol through a proxy (cable modem), so I don't know about any access issues, etc. I do hate aol (just on principle), but can't seem to give it up...lol. I use it for play stuff and use IE, Opera or Netscape for more serious stuff and to test coding, etc. L
I up-graded... No opinion yet... IT HAD SOME NEW DEAL WITH CALLER-ID AND FIND OUT IF YOU SHOULD SIGN OFF OR NOT...LOOKED LIKE A GREAT IDEA. HAVE CABLE NOW SO I DON'T CARE AT THIS POINT.
