Do I have to tell CA Everything?

When requesting validation from a CA debt appearing on my credit report, in the letter, do I have to provide the account number as it is stated on the credit report? Also, my address has changed from the one the ca has. Can I just write the letter from my new address, or should I give them the old address. My first thought is that correcting the incorrect address info, and providing them with the account number, just makes their job of finding info about the debt in their files that much easier for them.

I wouldn't help them at all. Let them earn their money. If it is difficult for them they may not validate. Remember, they have lower paid people doing this, and you are hoping for a lazy or overworked one. Charlie

But, wouldn't you need to give them an address to reply to with their "validation"?

Only a partial account number appears on the report, as in 7345621..., or 7345XXXXXXX. Is that giving them enough information?

It was enough for them to report it.

I wouldn't give them a current address, they will use it to attempt collection there. Get a PO Box.
