Is Rapid the same as Emerge?

I just got my "Love Note" from Rapid stating that my Providian account had been transferred to them. Is this the Emerge card I have been reading about?

Any feedback positive or negative from anyone else transferred?

    Is Providian keeping anyone??

Emerge? Please share what you've heard. I got the same letter yesterday. I''ve had a perfect history for 28 months on a $3000 Providian card. Notice how sleek and cool looking the new card design is? Good thing it says MASTERCARD in large font across the top or you might think it was a teaser card like the Household bank invitation bubbles card.

a month before providian closed my account they raised my rate to 29.9. now on my first merge statement they lowered it to 23.99. They said we hope you apprecite this. why the heck did they do that?

I've yet to receive any notice from Providian. Got my cards from Emerge...called them as I was surprised..they say most people didn't know it was happening. But the card is cool!

This card is issued by Cardwork's and is not Emerge. Just received my card last wednesday without any warning from Providian.

Why do say the card is cool?

Mine is an emerge. Wonder why some got one and some got others. I like the card because it has a cool starburst glowy thing in the middle ....how's that for technical talk? LOL

Looks like PVN is keeping me. I keep going there and checking, hehe.

They just sent me a 4.9% BT offer - good for 3 months. Yeah, right! AmEx just gave me the 0% for a year, again.

Girl!! It is a good feeling! I waited long and worked hard to get here. Following in the footsteps of those who led the way. :)

Actually, my point was that PVN only wants prime customers, but they really don't have a clue. I am just about there - 2 scores over 700, one (EFX)hanging (forever) on 699. The paid tax liens will be off in 4 months and hopefuly, I will get a big boost from that. Then I will be saillllllllling!

I'm glad they didn't sell me, but only because this is my oldest account, and I want it to stay that way for a while longer.

I have the Emerge and the Rapid (rapid is now closed by consumer.)

They sent me the Emerge Gold card with the burst thing. (it doesn't look cheap to you?) I am going to keep that one open for awhile for aging, and because I now have two accounts recently closed within the last two months. I read somewhere that it wasn't good to close over 2 accounts in six months. I don't know how true it is, but I am not trying to do anything else to lower my scores.

I am sitting back waiting for all my new prime cards to age!

I understand the logic in trying to only keep prime accounts, but shouldn't they be VERY afraid because of the tactics they used while closing accounts/increasing interest rates/selling accounts?

So Rapid and Emerge are different cards?

My says nothing about Emerge and only refers to Rapid on the return address. The face only has MasterCard on it, no bank name.

Mine says Emerge only...and it's not gold..it's brown/tan. Also, they never tried to increase my rate...it's still that ridiculous 23.9% but they didn't try to increase. We are working to get this paid off and it's already in the "Don't use this stupid card" drawer!

Absolutely, IMO. Like I said, they don't have a clue.

The other thing that I have a problem with is they are doing this because the GOVERNMENT gave them an ultimatum. If there is a class action lawsuit, (which I am praying it is), shouldn't the government take some of the responsibility for allowing this to happen? Jacking up interest rates and closing consumer accounts is NOT helping the economy, it is helping to line the pockets of Providian.

    Just venting!

i don't know how I have escaped getting sold by Providian... at least one card is definitely sub-prime, maybe its because my Getsmart isn't very old. I did notice that my card is only valid for 1 year and I'm about half way there. I guess this makes ii easier to cancel or sell me if they aren't satisfied at the end of the year.
