Ok, I got a Household Bank Mastercard in the mail today with a lousy 800.00 limit and when I register online to see my account I see a MEMBERSHIP FEE of 69.00??!!! I can't ever remember applying for this card and am wondering if I don't activate it will they close it out? Am I now stuck with having to pay this absurd fee? I have other CC's with 5000.00 limits and no annual fees etc....WHERE THE HECK DID THIS CRAPPY CARD COME FROM? Can I send it back so it doesn't show up on my credit? HELP!!!

    Call them up NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

"I don't have any annual fee cards and my LOWEST limit is $5,000 what can you do for me?"

If they say NOTHING~~~SAY BUH-BUY~~~and close the account TODAY!!!

It will PROBABLY show up on your credit report(s). You can try to dispute it off at a later time.

I'm typing up a letter right now as I'm reading this! I can't believe they issued me this card when I swear I never applied for this. Plus a membership fee? What is that crap? Never heard of that! The thing that bothers me is are they going to make me liable to pay that 69.00?? YIKES
All this when I'm trying to pay off my credit cards! I can't afford another inquiry...Can they just send me a card without me applying?

"I can pay $60 and get a UNITED AIRLINES CARD VISA CARD with 15,000 miles sign-up bonus...WHY WOULD I WANT YOUR CARD THAT GIVES ME NOTHING"?

Federal law prohohibits an issuer from sending an unsolicited card.

Did you apply for a Best Buy card? Fiance applied for Best Buy card and was declined, but received HHBank card in the mail a few weeks later. I guess somewhere in the fine print it says, if you aren't approved for Best Buy, then you would like to apply for HH Master.

Yes, I did about a few months ago! That could be what happened....I didn't know about that. Thing that made me mad was they charged me a membership fee and sent me the card. It never said anything when I was denied the best buy card that the household card would be sent! That sucks. Either way I mailed off a letter stating I wanted it closed out. I don't need another M/C and this one totally sucks with the membership fee. Does hers have that fee too?

I would call them to close the account. You can probably via phone get the fee dropped, if you want the card. Charlie

As long as you close the account before you use or activate the card they will not charge you the annual fee.

Actually his was $1000 limit, no fee, and he really needed the card. His credit pretty much sucks, but I'm working on it. I was in a total state of shock that he was approved for a card with a decent limit. We put $150 on it for groceries (just to put a balance on it), now it's nice and cozy with the other cards in a block of ice in the freezer while we make the minimum payments.

Well, after emailing Household thru their website and demanding they credit the acct I can't remember applying for I got this response:

    Dear XXX:
We can certainly understand your frustration regarding this matter. We
are sorry to hear that you did not want the Household Bank Card. The
annual fee in the amount of $69.00 has been credited to your account.
The fee reversal will appear on one of your next two billing
    statements.

We regret to hear that we will be losing your business, however we
respect your decision and will proceed with the closure of your
    account.
Please accept this response as confirmation that your account has been
closed. If you have not already done so, please destroy any credit
cards or convenience checks you may have for this account. Please be
sure to cancel any recurring charges such as insurance policies,
subscriptions or other membership fees, which are automatically billed
to this account. Closing your account does not automatically stop
    these
charges. If you have any outstanding transactions or an unpaid
    balance,
you will be responsible for payment of these items and will continue to
receive monthly statements until the balance is paid in full.

We regret any inconvenience caused by this matter.

    Sincerely,
    Household bank

Guess I don't have to mail out that nasty letter afterall. WOO HOO
