I filed C13 in April. I'm paying on time. My scores range from 550-600. I expected a fair number of sub-prime offers in the mail, but all I got before today was one card offer (and what an offer - $250 secured card, $230 first month fees, $50 second month fee so you can get an over-limit immediately, $79 annual, $8 per month - does anyone really sign up for this crap? But I digress.....) Today I get a pre-approved Household Bank MC offer, "up to" $1500 line, $300 minimum, not secured, no processing fee, $39 annual, no monthly fee, interest rate N/A for me (around 20). The only seeming catch is that there is a "credit limit increase" fee of "up to" 50% of the CL increase?????? Anyone else seen this? Anyway, with those scores, just 6 months after filing, is this about as good as it gets, or is there somewhere else I should actively apply? And if so, where?
You could try capital one. No guarantees of course and your starting limit would probably be 2 - 300, but you wouldn't have $200 in fees.
When my scores were in that range I was able to get Capital One and Providian GetSmart (Aria at that time). I made the mistake to get a Cross Country card which I canceled within a month and received all the fees back. With scores in the low 600s I got a Target VISA and one of those fake Platinum Capital One cards. By far, Capital One was the best to deal with and their fees (only an annual fee) were very reasonable. In the mid 600s I got a GM Card. Good luck! Mark
Which card? I would like to apply to one or two cards (fear of rejection!) to transfer my high interest balance transfers to. I have no bk/coll/judg. I have 3 - 30 day lates 18 mos ago. (Total goof up on my part.) Nothing any worse than that (I am still kicking myself) with the exception that my cards are high debt to limit ratio. They are not high limits but I want rid of the likes of providian, cortrust, cap one and yes.."I'm a sucker" cross country. My scores are in the low to mid 600s because of those two things I guess. I suspect my social may be on amex's bad list b/c of my ex husband defaulting with them, but it is nowhere on my credit. Do I DARE try Chase or Discover?? Please help!
Re: Which card? Amy B, I would try and get the negs off and try for Citi. Look at millcbs and see which CRA pulls the card that you want. I think with the CA's tightening up you need to have high 600's to get a prime card. If you put your negs in dispute with EQ it may get your score high enough that you can get the card you want. Charlie
Re: Which card? I have repeatedly disputed them and the bureaus won't even investigate any more. The thing that ticks me off is that I dont even have judge/bk/coll and I can't get crap. I've been told several times there is really no reason for my scores to be so low.
