here is my TU chod letter... i will use the same for the other 2... what do you all think of it? thanks! Bugs Bunny PO BOX xxxxx Atlanta, GA 3xxxx SSN: xxx-xx-xxxx November 23, 2002 To Whom It May Concern: This letter is a formal request for an investigation and detailed description of the procedures used to determine the accuracy and completeness of the disputed information, including the business name, address, and telephone number of any furnisher of information contacted in connection with this re-investigation. I am hereby disputing the credit reporting of the following accounts: STAR BK BSFC ACCT# XX0X This account was NEVER LATE. EMERGE/PVN(Individual Account) ACCT# XX0X This account is NOT MINE. PLEASE REMOVE. As I already stated, the listed items are inaccurate and incomplete, and is a very serious error in reporting. Additionally, please provide the name, address, and telephone number of each credit grantor or other subscriber. Sincerely, Bugs Bunny
Why would you need the name, address etc if the acct happens to get deleted? I personally never asked for a procedural description until I got results back. Then once or twice, I sent a letter asking for this info.
I agree with LKH. Stick to the verification letter and leave the procedural request for later if they verify anything...why confuse them, they are not very bright...use the K.I.S.S. methadology. -Peace, Dave
ok thanks - how is this ?? Christine at Bayhouse does this on hers: "Please provide the verification data for your investigations: When and how was the account verified, who verified for the furnisher" She will send this in with a dispute.
I agree with LKH and Nave. I think that KISS is very important. You don't want to show your knowledge with a $10 an hour person that can't understand what you're saying. Charlie
Use crayon. Most CRA employees love this look. It reminds them of their last days of school back in the 3rd grade. Be sure to print, they can't read long hand.
Agree completely. Avoid the legal mumbo-jumbo. Dumb it down a bit and throw in a frivolous story-line to mask the fact that you have any knowledge whatsoever in what you are doing. Tell them that your accountant suggested that you write them this letter, blah, blah, blah... Then again, I got Experian to remove 5 of 6 disputed accounts by using one of the most obvious form letters that you have ever seen... You just never know. But I agree with the KISS method.
If that is what she puts on every dispute, then she is expecting everything to be verified. In fact, to me, she is inviting verification with that.
I'm not sure that she does it with every single one. But a few she did for me and that statement was on it. I got some positive results. Not to say that it helped or didn't, because they sure never sent me any verification of anything. For chod I think I'll just dispute without that statement.
I have always stuck a procedure request in my dispute letters. I put it in the last paragraph and say something along the lines of should this account be verified after you have finished your investigation, please provide the name of the person who verified the account, the business name, business address, etc. I also send a separate procedural request if it comes back verified and I don't receive it from my first request. This way I can state in my complaint that I requested this information numerous times and did not receive it. Just my opinion L
Have you ever received a procedural request back from them that wasn't a blanket letter or something? It seems like they really don't comply to this request a lot.
I really dont think you knowing the law or putting in certain lines in the letter matter that much if the item will get deleted or not. Many people use the "law" version and have great results others use the "nonlaw" version and have great results. I just think like anything else that has to do with credit it is a crap shoot.
Another question. In the above sample letter, would it make sense to include account numbers and credit report numbers?
Only provide them the information that is currently reported on your report, nothing more. For instance: If they list the account # as 123-456-XXX (XXX for your security) DO NOT provide them with the correct account # 123-456-789. Sending the report # or Confirmation # is ok, in fact it is mandatory for some. Include it everytime you dispute. -Peace, Dave
I would include the account number for the account your disputing. If it is only a portion of the account number then put that (sometimes the whole account number is not on your reports). I do not put the credit report number in my dispute letter.
One more comment/questions: I've heard that EQ forwards your request to a local office based on your geographical location. How do you find out where this office is in your part of the country to eliminate the potential delay? If this is incorrect, do you send directly to EQ in Atlanta?
Rhaeny...no...I've never received a response at all to a procedural request and don't know of anyone who has. I've asked if anyone has received one before and so far no one has stepped forward to say they had. L
