I have a measley $57 unpaid doctor bill from 1997 that went to a collection agency and is listed on all three files.

I wrote a validation letter to the collection agency at the Dallas address listed on my Experian. It came back "return to sender."

On my Equifax, there is a Houston phone number that works, and I found the company's website that lists a main address in Tennessee.

    Here are my questions --
Can I send a letter to ALL THREE CRAs telling them I attemtped to contact, include a copy of the returned letter and ask the CRAs to delete because the CA was unable to validate?

Can I only do this with Experian, who is listing the Dallas address where the letter was denied?

Or do I have to send my validation letter to the Houston and/or Tennessee addresses since I now know that the Dallas address is no good?

This CA is not actively pursuing this debt, and honestly I would pay it in full for deletion just to make it go away. But I first want them to validate because I really can't remember my 1997 paying habits.

Thanking in advance for any help you can provide.

    peace,
    delilah

I would like to know as well b/c I have the Exact same scenario on a ccc tradeline. The address Exp gives is not valid and I have the envelope to attest to that, but it is not the same address that Efx gives.

Did the CRAs "verify" the accounts at this bad address? Or have you disputed?

No I haven't disputed this with the CRAs yet.
I had only sent the validation request to the CA.

oh, and my TU report does not list any address for this company.

    Thanks again.

    peace,

Man, I don't know for sure. But if it were me, I'd at least try it. If you had the right address and they refused to even open your letter and just sent it back, then that sounds to me like they are refusing to even CONSIDER validating it. I'd send it to all CRAs immediately.

Of course you'd have a little better case if it happened on multiple occasions....

Why don't you just dispute it with the CRA's first to see what happens. It may get deleted and you might not even have to go any further.

I would dispute with the CRA's. If they verify, I would ask for procedure request.. I would threaten lawsuit (how can they verify if you cannot contact ca)

This happened to me with a oc and I sent the cra a copy of the envelope (marked return to sender). They deleted immediately.... I was a newbie then, If I know what I know now, I would have set them up :(
