This is my first post here, I have done alot of reading and still have some major questions. For some background on me (pun intented), I am 28 years old and make approximately 45k/year. I never cared about credit and basically had a maturity lapse from the time I was eighteen until I was twenty five. My credit is crap of course, I saw a copy of my equifax report a couple of years ago....and there was alot of negative reports on it. I have no major unpaid debts, there are basically alot of small things on there, 100$ for an unpaid utility bill, 400$ from an apt complex I lived in...just a bunch of that kind of stuff. The positives I have are basically a couple of car loans (co signed by parents). A few months ago I hit credit rock bottom lol. I went to get financing for a used car and I couldn't even with my parents co signing (they have perfect credit) I tryed many lending instutions but not a one would give me a loan, even with a co-signer. I realized its time to grow up. own up to my debts and clean my credit in the process. The problem is I don't know where to even begin, my credit is so poor and the measley 100 dollars here, 50 dollars there negative instances on my report have added up. I am also a little discouraged, even if I pay off the collection agencys my credit will still be crap for seven years ... ? correct ? Does anyone know of a credit counseling service or anything of that nature that helps those of us that are credit impaired?
first of all, congratulations on taking control of your finances! recommend that you do it yourself..yes it will take some time and patience but once you learn it and earn your way back from credit hell, you will not tend to get yourself in the same situation again. first things first, get current copies of your credit reports from transunion, equifax and experian... let's see what is on there and go from there. you can order them online, and get them free online ( at least tu) if you have been denied credit in the last 60 days.... read the first three posts on the board(these are essential to basic understanding of credit repair) when you get copies of your reports, make copies of all of them... then look at them carefully... you can post here and ask questions about how to proceed... good luck!
