We already know that credit reports are reliable indicators of how well you drive, your propensity for highjacking airplanes, your willingness to commit suicide or perhaps fake your own death, and of the likelihood that a tree will fall on the roof of your house...but did you also know that bad credit could prevent you from joining the ranks of overweight alcoholic parolees dressed up as Santa Claus at your area mall every holiday season?

That's the message I'm getting from Pre-employ.com's newsroom. These folks specialize in background checks to screen job applicants. One way they can help a hapless hiring manager make sure that he/she isn't inadvertently bringing Osama bin Laden on board to work in their accounts receivables department is to provide them with--you guessed it--your credit report. From Pre-employ.com's products page:

    Credit Report
This "employment version" does not contain account numbers, date of birth, or generate an "inquiry" to the credit status.

What do they mean by not generating "an inquiry to the credit status"? Not generating a hard inquiry, or not showing up at all on the report?

Oh, and as a courtesy, they also supply an Adverse Action Notification (pdf document) on their free forms page.

Does that mean all pedophile Santa Clauses this year will hve good credit? It makes me feel a lot better knowing that.

Dammit, I just hit three nuns and a third grader with my SUV while speeding away from the post Office where I forgot to mail my Visa payment.

Convicted pedophiles applying for a Santa position are required to have no delinquencies within the past 18 months, and no more than six inquiries within the last year.
