we recently filed our 2002 state taxes. we were sent a notice that we owed 300.00 - now I check dh Tu report and there is a HARD inquiry dated 12/2/03. I guess my question is, should this be a hard inquiry since it is from the state?
in my opinion, that is one inquiry i would let slide. i'll f*ck with a creditor on an inquiry, but not the state/federal government. its only one, press the issue if they do it again. now all i have to do is sit back and wait for someone to say "well then, why not jsut let them walk all over us"...
WHAT CREDIT CARD OR LOAN DID YOU APPLY FOR??? CALL OR WRITE THE CRA!!! This is not even one of those GREY AREA THINGS like insurance...or a checking/savings account!!!!!
I have dealt w/the MA Department of Revenue and the IRS. Don't know what state you're in, but most state tax agencies are modeled after the IRS - if you owe them, they will let you know. They have let you know. If you want to have the inquiry removed, I would first pay them. Even if you don't want the inquiry removed, I'd pay them. Then I'd ask them to remove the inquiry. They may send you here and there, have you fill out some form, but in the end it's a matter of reaching the right person and not leaving them any reason to make the inquiry.
Re: Re: state taxes..PERMISSIBLE INQUIRY? "IF" the IRS and STATE TAXES are into TAINTING CREDIT REPORTS NOW...SOMEBODY IS GONNA' GET IN BIG TROUBLE...(LAW SUIT WISE) SENDING A "BILL" IS ONE THING...BUT TO PULL A CREDIT REPORT??? I DON'T THINK SO!!!
Re: Re: state taxes..PERMISSIBLE INQUIRY? Why not? You have a balance with them.. If ANYONE can validate a debt, they're pros at it. Or they could hire a CA.
Re: Re: Re: state taxes..PERMISSIBL George, we're talking about the guys who have the patents on tainting and strongarming. They put Al Capone away! When they take a lien out and it sits on the public record portion of your credit report for seven years AFTER you pay it, THAT is what I'd call tainting!
Re: Re: Re: state taxes..PERMISSIBL I respectfully disagree. Most state revenue departments are trying to be "user friendly." I would complain about the inquiry and explain it lowers your credit score, may keep you from obtaining credit, etc etc etc. Its really a grey area if the government has the right to pull your credit. Think invasion of privacy, unreasonable search (of your financial records) etc. Demand they remove the inquiry, and if not, get tough with them and threaten to sue. Since it is a state government, you will need to sue in Federal Court. If the $300 is money you owe... DO PAY IT. Good luck...
Re: Re: Re: state taxes..PERMISSIBL I'm not sure if it's my post(s) you're disagreeing with, but I don't think we're at odds here. I've said (a) pay them and (b) talk to them about having it removed. They are and can act like the 800 pound gorilla, but that doesn't mean you don't speak to them.
