I have an account with FCNB that was "closed by the credit grantor in 09/00. It does not say charged off, but it has a balance of 466.00. I have received letters from an agency trying to collect the 466.00 (Plaza Associates), but they are not on ANY of my credit reports. My question is, who should I pay? I want the account removed, so should I contact the OC since they are on my reports and try to settle for removal, or should I work with the CA? Also, is there are difference between "closed by credit grantor" and "charged off'? If I pay the OC and I can not get them to delete it, once the debt is paid, what is it likely to show?

I would settle with/pay the OC for removal of their tradeline plus get them to promise in writing that the CA will not report either.
