    Hello all,

I am disputing with equifax a paid collection. They said on the phone that they do not accept any paperwork via there investigation. I have a letter proving the account is paid as agreed. Something tells me that it will come back verified. How should I proceed. Call the company and ask them to remove it or send a formal letter to equifax.

    Mike,

I had the same problem with nearly *every* item that a creditor
agreed to delete (in writing) and Equifax's updates. I yelled at
Equifax and threatened to sue. I also demanded that Equifax
do a "phone verification" by calling the person in the department
who can verify the deletion. If you do it, make sure that you give
Equifax the name of a real person with whom you've talked, their
direct phone number, title and extension number.

I also called each of the creditors and demanded that they fax a rush
update for deletion to the three CRAS asap.

This is why Marie's post on suing the CRAs re proof of verification
    is sooo important.

If you don't want to do this route, you can apply for credit using that CRA
(i.e. Juniper) and get denied. When you get the denial letter from the
company and it says that the reason is "serious delinquency", and if that
is your ONLY serious delinquency, then take both Equifax and the creditor
reporting the info to small claims court and sue for the amount of the
credit limit on the denied card or $5000, whichever is highest for small
    claims.

Oh, and send Equifax your creditor letters anyway. That way you can
prove in court that you had proof that your dispute was not frivolous
and that you provided Equifax compelling information.
