How do you remove Federal Tax Liens?

I have wittled a very old tax lien down to $8129 from $130,000. However its ruined my credit because there are two tax liens showing on my credit profile for the $8K plus another one that was released by the feds for $21,456. Yet they tell me that it can't be removed. Does anyone have or know of someone else with a simialiar situation? More importantly, does anyone know how to get this thing off my report?!

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
GreatLifeStyle

I sent a letter/form to the CRA(s) "not mine" and they removed them.
This can be done even if the liens still show up as public record at the counties they were filed.

Federal Liens

Are you saying that if I have paid off my federal tax liens that I can write all (3) CRAs and request them to remove my liens off of my report? If so do you have a sample of the wording to use?

Thank you, Newbie

It's better to post these types of questions in the main forum, for a better range of advice.

But, don't be misled, Federal tax liens are the hardest to remove. A "Not Mine" dispute usually does not work. I just don't want you to get your hopes up.

I use to work for a credit bureau and even after a tax lien is paid it can technically remain on the credit report 7 years from the paid date.

If disputing not mine does not work then you should go to the court house and get a copy of the release or satisfaction and forward that to the credit reporting agency. This will just get it updated to show when you paid so they can start counting down the 7 years on it.

If you can instead of paying in exchange for a release, or satisfaction. You should ask them to dismiss the tax lien. That way you just need get a copy of the dismissal and forward to credit reporting agency for them to delete immediately.
